I've not heard that porting helps with felt recoil. I've heard and have experience that they help with muzzle flip.carlson1 wrote:I have not shot a Shield ported, but do own and shoot a ported Glock 19c. There is not "bright light" or "fire" coming from the ports. I have seen some magazine photo's that show a huge "fire burst" coming from the pistol. I guess it makes a nice picture, but is not true. I have shot in light, low light, and night with the 19c.surprise_i'm_armed wrote: Someone who has more experience with ported handguns--------please contribute.

I have also not noticed the "low recoil" that is always advertised with the ported pistols. Maybe in a larger caliber???
Edit: Be prepared to clean the front sight a lot or at least I find my XS Sights getting very dirty.

Shooting a Glock 19 ported I don't even notice a reduced muzzle flip.Morbidrealities wrote:I've not heard that porting helps with felt recoil. Re: S&W Shield 9mm question
I had my full sized Ruger SR1911 ported for giggles about a year ago. I definitely noticed a reduced muzzle flip. Was it enough to be worth what I paid? For aesthetic reasons it was nice looking, but for actual muzzle flip, no. It was a noticeable reduction in flip, but it wasn't a must have modification.carlson1 wrote:Shooting a Glock 19 ported I don't even notice a reduced muzzle flip.Morbidrealities wrote:I've not heard that porting helps with felt recoil. Re: S&W Shield 9mm question
I have both.
Bought the reg version (in 9mm) 3 years ago, and have 3500 rounds through it, not one single problem ever. I put talon grips and XS big dots sights on it. wish I hadn't changed the sights. The stock sights were a bitch to get off. So much so that I will gladly pay, from now on if I ever have any sights replaced on any gun, and no, I am NOT handy with tools, obviously. LOL
The gun shoots low and left consistently, and say it's my grip or whatever, but no other gun I own does that.
I recently bought the new performance center version, and put 300 rounds through it right out of the box. No talon grips no changes whatsoever.
Love it. shots group nicely without having to make any adjustments as I do with the original shield. The ported barrel seems (to me anyway) to really reduce muzzle flip, and the trigger seems a lot better, and I just love it.
I also have the Glock 43, and the Ruger LC9S pro and of the four 9mm guns, the S&W Performance Center is my favorite and my all time carry gun, #2 spot would be the Ruger, and #3 spot would be the S&W Shield reg version. The Glock is my least favorite, in fact, I am giving it to my brother who carries a Glock for work.
Shooting that Glock 43 after shooting that S&W Shield Performance Center is like driving a VW bug after driving a Maserati.
