The years is half over and I haven't seen an open carrier yet
I'm both surprised and not surprised that this is the case.
I live in Katy/Cinco Ranch area, and have pretty much remained in the greater Houston area so far this year in urban and rural locations.
On January 1, I expected to see some one within a few days, but so far none. I've asked a few friends if they've seen any, and more often that not they haven't either.
Has this been the case for others, or have I somehow been sheltered?

I don't get around as much as you city dudes but I've yet to see any out here in the Pineywoods, and I do look for 'em.

Coming back from the range, I OC at Kroger Gas Station and Cabela's. No issues whatsoever.

Re: The years is half over and I haven't seen an open carrier yet
It's all a matter of numbers. There are now 1 million LTC holders in the State of Texas. So that means that only 1 out of 27 people are even potentially carrying at any one location. Deduct those who may be on the clock for a company that prohibits carry while at work, those who don't carry every day, those who only CC, and the ratio probably drops to 1 in 500. So unless you are in a given location with over 500 people who aren't otherwise prohibited from carrying, the chances of encountering one is very small.JMHO

A big part of the reason that it hasn't been seen much is that no one wants to be first, so willingness to be an "ice breaker" is important.Beiruty wrote:so OC yourself.
As for me, I haven't been in many situations where OC had an advantage, and this may be another reason.

Texas Summer and being outside is enough reason to OC, if you want to enter an establishment, throw on your concealment garment. Enjoy the AC.rp_photo wrote:A big part of the reason that it hasn't been seen much is that no one wants to be first, so willingness to be an "ice breaker" is important.Beiruty wrote:so OC yourself.

I haven't seen anyone other than myself. Does it count if I see myself in the mirror?

I OC'd in Glacier NP last summer as well as all the way from Flathead Lake across Montana, down through Wyoming and up into Rocky Mountain NP. That's some 1,100 miles with several stops. One guy asked what I was carrying at a gas station in Estes Park. Another couple from Alabama noted it while in the Estes Park RV park.Beiruty wrote:so OC yourself.
I've got OC out of my system, thank you.

For me and probably many others, what's most important is that it's one less restriction and an available option should we ever choose to do so.Oldgringo wrote: I've got OC out of my system, thank you.
That being said, could OC be jeopardized if too few people do so?

I don't think so . Groups like Mothers strongly suggesting motion, no town, and other Blooming idiots predicted gloom and doom with blood running ankle deep. Since none of these have happened, and those of us who do OC on occasion, have proven to be normal, law abiding, and considerate, the anti's message is starting to fall on deaf ears. With no plausible reason to revoke the privilege who is going to want to take it away? I know that it should be considered a right and not a privilege but we in Texas are taking baby steps towards constitutional carry , and have jumped through hoop after hoop to prove ourselves, and have met each challenge with nothing but almost flawless proof of our intentions. Carry on OC when it meets your needs, CC when necessary, and if and when you meet someone OC acknowledge them positively.

Re: The years is half over and I haven't seen an open carrier yet
I've have never seen an open carry in Texas. I've seen four in NM since open carry became legal ( 3 in one family and one idiot just looking for attention). The only negative I have seen is the increase in valid signage (both 30.06 and 30.07).
Re: The years is half over and I haven't seen an open carrier yet
Saw a biker on Jan 1 coming out of Target in Frisco. He was walking out. I was walking in.
I've seen two at Academy in Garland on separate occasions. One had two boys under 10 with him.
Saw a 50/60 year old man at a pizza place in Athens.
Nobody seemed to be scared on all three occasions. Pizza place was most crowded of three.
I've OCd three times just to do it. Manager at Jack in Box seemed a little nervous but didn't say anything. I saw him look right at it.
Nobody said anything my second time.
Carried at my son's last little league game. He said it freaked the other teams coach out.
