Not only are we not getting universal background checks, all gun control measures in the Senate failed. Those who just love to claim the NRA caved, Cornyn caved, the Republicans caved, etc. really should wait until you see the bill(s) and the votes are taken.

So, those of you who ordered Crow, how would you like it cooked?

I'm glad to see all the bills failed.

However, I find it interesting Cornyn threw the dogs a bone with what could be argued is a reasonable compromise and even that was rejected. Haven't seen the vote breakdown yet but suspect the dems universally rejected what could be argued to be a "common sense" compromise that might have actually been helpful in preventing at least some terrorists from legally purchasing a gun. Now their true motives and intentions can be highlighted with a vote to back up our position.

The next time a progressive dem or a moderate republican tells me "common sense" legislation needs to be passed I can remind them how it was their party and buddies that have rejected "common sense" legislation that may have had a chance of having an impact.

For the record, I have my issues with Cornyn but I am trying not to just blindly reject a person in total just because of our disagreements in certain areas.

Did anyone else watch the voting on CSPAN last night? I think the most ridiculous thing I heard, aside from the bills themselves, was when Feinstein sought to further her argument by invoking the .50 cal rifle as, and I quote directly, "A weapon used by snipers, it can go over a mile, and through a brick wall."


Guess she forgot the part about the calculating of windage variations, barometrics, bullet drop, curvature of the earth, etc. needed to hit even the largest of bricks at that distance, or the unforgiving recoil experienced by a first time .50 shooter.

I have had to defend the NRA to many Pro 2A folks who have been duped by media propaganda and misinformation. It's a divide and conquer strategy that's being used by the left and we shouldn't fall for it.

Okay, I admit that I was having a little fun with my prior post. That said, there is a message.

Some people don't like the NRA, Republicans, Cornyn, Trump and you can add to the list if you like. Very often, those opinions are based upon lies people have been told and they never lifted a finger to learn the truth. I honestly could not care less, as long as you don't let those feelings harm the overall mission to save the Second Amendment. No rational person truly believes the NRA would sell out gun owners and the Second Amendment, so any such claims are already suspect in my mind. (Smells like Dudley Brown supporters.)

Every single time we've had a highly publicized shooting like Columbine, Vriginia Tech, Sandy Hook, San Bernadino and now Orlando, anti-gun, anti-freedom, anti-constitution liars like Boomberg's lead paid liar Shannon Watts came out of the woodwork to start pushing their anti-gun political agenda. Unlike the NRA, they don't even allow the families the time to bury their loved ones and grieve. After each of these murders, the usual suspects and some gun owners were proclaiming the end of personal liberty and the passage of sweeping anti-gun legislation. It didn't happen because the NRA prevented it by working with the very same Republicans many gun owners attack.

The NRA always shines a light on the lies and hypocrisy told by Bloomberg's ilk when they try to exploit personal tragedies for political gain. The facts have always prevailed over anti-gun lies and emotional attacks. During such times, it's very hard for me to keep quiet and not respond to the stuff that gets posted here on the Forum, Facebook and elsewhere by people claiming to support the Second Amendment and the Constitution as a whole. Yet quiet I must remain for speaking out would hurt the efforts as well.

Something else people must remember is that Washington D.C. is not Texas. What can be done in Austin is not reflective of what can be accomplished in D.C. The "why don't they do [fill in the blank] crowd needs to understand this critical fact.

The advice most often given by relationship counselors is to "presume the other person means well and means you no harm, until proven otherwise." The Second Amendment remains viable in the 21st Century solely because of the NRA. That should be sufficient to give us the benefit of that presumption.
