Well yeah, but he was a Muslim with obviously extremist views. They couldn't very well pay much attention to him. That would be profiling and offensive.

We're the real terrorists, dontcha know! :evil2:

I typically don't buy gun stuff at Academy since they're overpriced, IMO. Funny thing is, if it weren't for the internet, the majority of us wouldn't even know about this.

I buy from internet shops and gun trader 99% of the time, so Academy won't be missing out from me not shopping there, and I'd bet the same for most of you. Academy could stop selling guns all together and do just fine.

While I've shopped at Academy many times, don't understand why anyone would buy a gun from them. Last time I considered it, they don't remove the trigger locks. Can't imagine ever buying a gun without feeling the trigger.

Too many other sources for anything else I need. Taking the off my "acceptable customer list".
The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I agree 100%. Trigger could be 20# and you wouldn't know it. This Sundays advertisement did have 3 "assault rifles" and a bunch of ammo to feed them. I haven't fired them yet and they are the source of most of my shotshells.

Isn't pulling the AR's off the shelf a gratuitous on our knees display of weakness in the direction of the anti-gun crowd?

A better move would be to highlight the AR's - not remove them from the shelves. Academy seems to act like they're ashamed as if they've been caught selling pornography to minors.

They should highlight their selling of AR's.

To do so would be a commitment to remain unbowed.

The last 10 guns I bought, I did so without feeling the trigger. They were all internet purchases......

Dear ,

Thank you for contacting Academy Sports + Outdoors. We are currently selling modern sports rifles, but out of respect for the victims and the tragic situation in Orlando, we have chosen not to broadly advertise or display these items. Our selection varies by store and your best source for current inventory availability is by checking with your local store.

As a family and community focused retailer, Academy Sports + Outdoors is constantly evaluating our business to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers. Our decision to remove modern sports rifles from display while continuing to make them available to those customers legally eligible to purchase them reflects that commitment.

Sincerely,

Derrick E.

What the hell is wrong with you people? I'm not going to financially support any retailer who is not willing to show 100% support for the 2nd amendment, and pander to political correctness.

Academy Sports + Outdoors, a southern US sporting goods chain is reportedly pulling modern sporting rifles from their shelves in the wake of the attack in Orlando. According to reports the move to pull rifles from the display rack was at the request of the corporate offices in Texas. According to reports the rifles will still be available for sale but not on display leading many buyers to believe that there are no rifles available.

Reports from a Academy employee that requested to remain anonymous that there are even more changes. Our informant stated that Academy Sports corporate hosted a conference call requesting all modern sporting rifle lighters and other gifts are being pulled from the shelves along with all the airsoft and bb guns resembling an “assault rifle”.

The most shocking development is that the conference call outlined a new policy requiring any sale of more than 10 boxes in a caliber that Academy deems an “assault rifle caliber” will require the buyer to furnish personal information that Academy is planning on keeping in a database, other employees have stated that they were just directed to “report the transaction” with no clear outline on how to do so.

So, if you must purchase ammo from Academy, buy 9 boxes and no more.

However, SGA and many other bulk ammo folks (who sell for less) aren't scared little PC rabbits like Academy, so buy from them.

Anti-gun folk think large purchases of ammo indicate nefarious doings, never considering if one practices shooting a lot, one needs lots of ammo to do so.

Then, the weenies ask: Why do you need to practice so often and on and on it goes.

The thought you might like to shoot and improve isn't for them so how can it be for you unless you're up to no good...and so it goes.

They've added a few words to the form letter addressing the logging of ammunition sales. I received the same form letter with this at the end....

"At this time we are not in anyway collecting customers information when any ammunition is purchased. It is Company policy to protect our customer's data when purchases are made."

The phrase "At this time" is a bit disconcerting.....
