G19 Gen 2 with Crimson Trace Light Guard?

#1

Post by drjoker »

Hi,

The gun shop salesman claims that the Crimson Trace Light Guard will fit the Gen 2 Glock 19, which has NO accessory rail. However, on the Glock website, it says that it only fits the Glock 19 with the accessory rail (Gen 3 and 4 only). I'm kinda skeptical of the gun shop guy because he doesn't allow refunds and it is a special order item so I have to order it and pay for it before I get it (I get no prepurchase examination).

So, guys, have any of you put a Crimson Trace light guard on a Glock 19 gen 2 before? Gen 2 has no accessory rail. Will it rattle annoyingly? Will it fall off or come loose after shooting a couple hundred rounds through it? Or does it work, even without the accessory rail attachment?

Thanks,
:tiphat:

I don't know the answer to your question, but you could always use an AMEX or another card that has return protections. That's what I do if I ever have to buy from a "no returns" seller.

Not a good idea. I pre-paid some reloading supplies from a local dealer and he said it will be ready in a month. A month later, it was not ready. He said give me a week more. A week later, not ready. Not good! So, I cancelled the order with my credit card even though he doesn't allow cancellations of preorders. I figure I haven't received the merchandise, so no harm, no foul, right?

Wrong. I was banned for life from said retailer.

It's better just to hear from my fellow TX Chl forum members BEFORE making the purchase just to avoid being banned from any more retailers. There aren't many gun shops in Dallas.

Personally, I would have banned that dealer from my further business after getting that kind of run around. If he told you it would be there in a month and failed to live up to that commitment, then he is the one at fault. Of course, it would be different if he said something like "it might be ready in a month but it could take a while longer." And I understand that you might be at the mercy of the sellers if there really is a small market out there.

In the OP's case, if the retailer tells OP that he is sure the accessory will fit X gun, then the retailer should make it right if that turns out to be bad info, IMHO. Or the retailer could be honest and say "I think it should fit, but I'm not 100% certain."

I almost bought a gun from a guy, but decided not to go through with the order after he told me "you don't impress guys like me when you mention Bud's gun shop". It occurred to me that I wasn't trying to impress him at all. If anything it should be the other way around. Too many people in this business seem to have an attitude that isn't entirely customer friendly. That may be why I tend to do most of my purchases online.

Agreed!!!

Banned for life from a retailer? Sounds like it would be a welcomed level of service for both of us. There is nothing I can't get elsewhere or over the net. I ain't got time to be bullied around by a vendor. Brick and mortar places are already fighting for market share as it is. Now this one wants you to take all of the risk for their advice? Nah. Not for this cowboy, anyway. Maybe the Houston area just has a better average than DFW but we seem to have a fair number of good dealers looking to provide for their families (I don't begrudge profit margins) and share a good gun time with me. I would tolerate the situation you describe for about three nano seconds before bolting for the door. I find it hard to believe in a megalopolis the size of DFW that there aren't guns folks that would love to have your business and to be willing to communicate well with you.

If you look under the "FIT NOTES" tab on the Crimson Trace website, it says Gen 3 and Gen 4. You can also search for products by generation number and it only has options for 3 and 4.

IMO, you dealer is wrong. The Lightguard attaches with the accessory rail. If there is nothing to hang onto, it won't work. I have a Lightguard on an XD 45. It attaches at the rail for installation. I really like the product, but I think you need a rail. You can always try the lasergrip that wraps around the grip, but the one I tried I found very uncomfortable.

I wouldn't buy it if the Gen 2 doesn't have a rail. This light is designed to attach to the rail. If you zoom in to the picture at the Crimson Trace Website, you can see that:

In addition, I also have this light for my Smith & Wesson M&P 9. You can see that the light attaches to the rail. I don't see how this could stay stable without a rail. I would imagine the same would apply to the Glock model.

Anybody have a G19 Gen 2 you could try attaching the Crimson Trace Light Guard to and report back to me? I already said in my original post that I am aware that the Crimson Trace website only lists Gen 3 & 4 as compatible NOT the Gen 2 G19. The G19 Gen 2 has NO accessory rail BUT the Crimson Trace Light Guard attaches fine on the Ruger 1911 with no accessory rail, so the gun shop guy might be right. I'm skeptical, though.

Anybody ever tried it?

Thanks.

You may just want to call or email Crimson Trace for their opinion. I suspect they'll tell you it's not officially supported on a Gen 2 Glock.

I'm sure you can make it fit with some cleaver gunsmithing, but the real question is whether you will trust it in that condition.

The Crimson Trace page for that 1911 product specifically says it is designed to attach to the trigger guard. The lightguard I have for an XD does not do that and the page for the Glock 19 doesn't say anything about it. I would say to call Crimson Trace (as suggested) if you want to be sure. I don't think it will fit. I don't own a Glock 19.

Sounds like the best way to go. Is there a price difference?

no price difference but refunding mail ordered stuff is more expensive due to shipping.
