Hello all,
I am new to the forum. The DPS received my application on August 10. I did not apply for the application on line. Sent the completed packet certified mail after completing the class at Top Gun. My question is how long will it take for the application to get into the system and how long before I receive my PIN number? Seems funny that I can purchase a new handgun in 10 minutes but it may take 60 days to receive my plastic.

Welcome sbb. It takes several weeks to get your pin from the time that the DPS receives your packet. It took a little over 3 weeks in my case. I also sent them a personal check but I still had a door to door of 40 days. It may seem like a long wait, but if you hand around this forum you will be able to pick up alot of useful information while you wait.

I am still in a holding pattern but I've been using my time to study the info in this forum, read one of Fornhams books on handgun tactics and defense, as well as trying different holsters with different clothing round the house and my back yard. It is really a good time to become familiar and comfortable with your equipment before the infamous "WALLY WALK"!

Thanks to all for the encouragement. I have been to the range several times since my packet was sent. I normally make the range once per week. This has been my habit over the last several years. Do any of you plan to carry a 1911 as your primary carry handgun? Let me know your thoughts on cc holsters.
