One building 2 doors, 2 different signs.
Hello,
Been going to a corner store next to my house a while now, and always use the door on the right, and I have seen the 30.07 sign which is okay I only carry concealed. But today cause of the rain and all the parking spots in front of the building being taken I park closer to left door and I read the sign I was surprised to see it was a 30.06.
So I didn't go inside I went to Walmart.
Shouldn't both signs be posted next to each other?

If from what I have learned and researched about various signs and placements; signs have to be visible posted so that it is easy to read. With that in mind if the store wants to have both signs, then they need to post both signs on the door together so that they are clearly in view. If there are more than one entrance to the store, they need to post signs on both entrances.loscar141 wrote:Hello,

This is not strictly speaking correct.TeachMan2016 wrote:If from what I have learned and researched about various signs and placements; signs have to be visible posted so that it is easy to read. All that is required of the 30.06 sign is:
(A) a card or other document on which is written language identical to the following: "Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun"; or
(B) a sign posted on the property that:
(i) includes the language described by Paragraph (A) in both English and Spanish;
(ii) appears in contrasting colors with block letters at least one inch in height; and
(iii) is displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public.
30.07 has a similar requirement, except that it must be "displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public at each entrance to the property."

Technically, they are not prohibiting OC since 30.07 requires the signs at all entrances.
Practically speaking, I would expect a customer to receive effective notice (verbally) if they carry through the door that only has a 30.06 sign. This falls in the general category of non-compliant 30.07 signs still meaning that it is pretty futile to OC there.
As for 30.06 and CC, I think it is less clear since the law does not require all entrances to be posted. My belief, and IANAL, is that the law also does not require a LTC holder to walk around the building looking at every possible entrance, so if you never saw the 30.06 sign, you would likely be OK CC'ing in there. It all comes down to the meaning of "is displayed in a conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public." Regardless, now that you have seen the sign, I believe you, personally, are not OK CC'ing in there.

Yep, now that I know about the 30.06 sign I won't go in. We're sopposed to be law abiding right?
Any way I am not going to disarm myself, unless I really have too. there are other stores that can get my money.

Well section B-iii states that is has be clearly visible. To me not having both signs together on both entrances is NOT making it clearly visible. If both entrances are normal well used areas then both signs should be clearly visible. Personally I would address the issue with the manager.Papa_Tiger wrote:This is not strictly speaking correct.TeachMan2016 wrote:If from what I have learned and researched about various signs and placements; signs have to be visible posted so that it is easy to read. loscar141, I would find a way to let the management know why I feel I need to shop elsewhere.

I have been thinking about doing that, but I feel like that will be breaking my cover, you know? like don't ask don't tell.treeman wrote:loscar141, I would find a way to let the management know why I feel I need to shop elsewhere.
I don't open carry were I live or in the area where I live I don't tell anyone that i am carrying or that i have a license to carry.
I also don't try to find ways around things like that. I understand that they don't want armed citizens in their store and that's fine.
I also been needing to find a new store, this store is one of those stores that charges 10 cents more for gas if paying with credit, and i dont carry cash me that often any more.

In many instances, these corner store owners are confused about the new law, so they are led to believe that they must post both signs to prohibit OC. In many cases, as in one that I was involved in, a politely worded letter to the owner can effect change. Here is link to what I did to get 30.06 sign removed at a store very close to my home. Feel free to use this in any form you see fit.

Lol, I never thought of doing it with email, I was thinking it would have to be a face to face conversation, okay I can try it that way, now I just have to get an email address or number I can call, I think I seen a sign that said "have a comment or concern" some where on the door.longhorn86 wrote:loscar141 wrote:I have been thinking about doing that, but I feel like that will be breaking my cover, you know? like don't ask don't tell.treeman wrote:loscar141, I would find a way to let the management know why I feel I need to shop elsewhere.
