Ditto. We shall see what happens. Below is my note. :txflag:
Dear Rep. {redacted},

Good afternoon, my name is {redacted - Mavs00} and I am a resident of Texas State District {redacted} and I am writing to you today to inquire into an open “License to Carry” permit application that I have outstanding. I submitted my application on 12/4/15 using the Veteran reduced-fee option as I am a veteran of the United States Army. I submitted my fingerprints electronically (12/7/15), CHL-100 and DD-214 (1/15/16) as required. I have confirmed with DPS that all of my required documentation was received by them on that date; January 15, 2016.

It is my understanding that under GC §411.176, the TX DPS Regulatory Services Division then has 60 days to perform the requisite background checks and 1) issue the LTC permit, or 2) contact the applicant to inform them of denial or request additional documentation. I submitted all of my material 62 days ago (as of 3/17/16) and neither of these has occurred for me. I have attempted to contact the DPS multiple times over the last few days to find out my status to no avail. I last spoke with a representative on 3/10/16, who confirmed receipt of my materials on 1/15/16 and indicated that the office “was busy” and to call back in 30 days. I do not find that to be an acceptable answer, given the guidelines set forth by GC 411.176.

I am writing to request that you intervene on my behalf to inquire with TX DPS RSD to determine the status of my application, or if to see if additional documentation is needed. As stated, I am a veteran of military service, have a clean criminal and psychological background and am a law-abiding citizen in good standing of your district. I have no idea what could be holding up the process at this point and I am certain that my eligibility will not be in question. I will add that I have submitted my application in order to take advantage of my constitutional right to self-defense (for myself and my family). Thank you sir, in advance for any assistance or clarification you can provide. I also thank you for your service to the citizens of District {redacted}.

Respectfully,
Mavs00

No other info.

No record, but I have a very common name and just moved here last year - no idea if that will have an affect or not.
71 days, still nothing.

:rules: DPS called. After my State Rep called them to have them check up on me. THAT WAS WORTHLESS! "Yeah, um ma'am you called a couple days ago so this isn't going to be anything new. It's going to be another 2-4 weeks at least. It's in processing." When I pressed Angela for more info, stating I understood that from this Forum others who have submitted 3-6 who's after have received there license. She couldn't explain or justify that. Did they needed more info or documents from me? No, my file was in the queue waiting my turn. IT HAD NOT BEEN TOUCHED YET. Nor will it FOR ANOTHER 2-4 WEEKS! Total friggin waste of my time!!! :reddevil :banghead: :mad5 :deadhorse: :blowup

Oh yeah. And everybody gets a pile. So they're totally out of order!

Thanks for that number. I'll give it a try tomorrow. Our 60 days was up Wednesday also and I could not get through to DPS via phone.

My email to my rep so far has not been answered. I also sent one today to Gov. Abbott. Of course he has been out inspected flood damage. That's a bit more important but I'm hoping to hear from someone from his office.

3/13/16. Email my state representative
3/14/16. Received call from a supervisor at DPS telling me she is personally processing my application and it will be sent to print before Thursday (3/17/16)

3/15/16. Received an email from my representative's Chief of Staff asking if RDS reached out to me. Told her what was discussed and thanked her office for the help, her reply was glad we could help.

If you are tired of getting the run around from DPS email your state representative, I read somewhere on this forum that DPS does not like having state representatives poking their noses in DPS' business. It worked for me.

Good luck.

????? Plastic in hand.

This is the example of the email I used to get this done. Just change the name and the dates to your needs.

Dear Representative <Name>,

I am writing to you in hopes that you can provide assistance with finding out the status of my License to Carry application. I applied for my license on <date>, on <date> I received a confirmation email from RDS. Fast forward to <date> I called RDS for a status update and was told it was to early for a status update, I understood because the conformation email said 6 weeks. I called again on <date> and was told RDS was waiting for the background check to return. Called again on <date>, I was told that the license went to print. I called back the following Thursday <date>, I was told they had not even started to process my application.

Since I am approaching 9 weeks I feel it necessary to reach out to you for your assistance.

Warm Regards,

I just realized I'm actually pretty close to the 60 business day limit! I'm right at the low 70s and at the end of the week I'll be at 60 business days! So I emailed my representative who called the next morning saying they'd look into it. Got an email back saying that they have their contact at the DPS office looking into it and I'll receive a call soon from them and they'll follow up. Did that last Friday. I was all in either 1/6 or 1/8 - I'm still unclear.

So today I called that number someone posted above and was transferred to someone, got a voicemail and left a nice voicemail. About an hour later, a very nice lady answered the phone, asked for my DL and then put me on hold for about 5 minutes. She came back and said that I AM in the queue to be processed in the next 7-14 days, but it should be closer to 7. She gave me her direct number and said to call back whenever I'd like to check back or if there's anything I need. Suggested I call back in two weeks for sure and I was welcome to call at the end of this week.

It could be this week or next! We'll see.

I suspect that by the time we hear about the little work arounds like representatives and that number, we all jump on it and bog those down a bit. But hey, if it's still taking some off of the RSD's hands, then maybe it's for the best! Sharing the load.

But I did my checking to make it feel like I'm not just hopelessly waiting for the week. Now back to patiently trying to forget about it! :totap:

Well, my State Rep wasn't very responsive. Got one initial email response saying I'd hear back at the end of last week. Came and went... No response. Guess he's not nearly as 2a friendly as his website advertises. :banghead:

Because I like to torture myself, I'd thought I'd call RSD again (hadn't talked to them since the 10th.). Spoke to a nice lady who seemed very apologetic and somewhat embarrassed in fact. She indicated that everything on my case was back (including my BG check), and indicated that everything was ay-OK. It was in the queue with a million other apps, just waiting to be processed. No timetable given. She gave me the whole "we've just got some new ppl on board to help with all the Dec/Jan apps" song and dance as well. I was all in on 1/15.

Soooooo... Back to waiting. :totap: :totap: :waiting: :waiting:
