Yep, I just sent in renewal paperwork, copy of DD214, $25 fee and received my renewal with "VETERAN" listed on it.rotor wrote:I have been out of the service 25+ years and just got my DD214. I was on terminal leave when I was discharged and never received one. Easy to get one online though. When I got my CHL I took a senior discount. What's the routine for getting vet discount when you renew? Do you just include a DD214 with paperwork? I still have a way to go before renewal and just curious from those that have done it.

Yes, and you select "veteran" when you do the online renewal.rotor wrote:I have been out of the service 25+ years and just got my DD214. I renewed in 2014 and used a copy (front and back) of my retired ID card.

Re: Veteran / Senior Discount
If I already have "Veteran" on my DL, do I have to send my DD214 in again when I renew my LTC?

Re: Veteran / Senior Discount
I have asked this before and never got a reply. I have "Veteran" on my DL and my CHL, because I used the discount when I first applied for CHL. My first renewal is not until next April, but was wondering if you had to send DD 214 every time you renew.oohrah wrote:If I already have "Veteran" on my DL, do I have to send my DD214 in again when I renew my LTC?

Re: Veteran / Senior Discount
I will be turning 60 on my next renewal date. Given that I plan to start the renewal process 60 days before my CHL expires will I still be entitled to the Sr. discount? Anyone had experience with this situation.
Thanks,
Larry

Yes. You can copy it in digital format and send it. It must be a copy of the one showing type of discharge.oohrah wrote:If I already have "Veteran" on my DL, do I have to send my DD214 in again when I renew my LTC?

Sorry to keep on this, but so I get it straight...so you are saying that if you want to keep using the veteran discount, you HAVE to send a copy EVERYTIME you renew? Thanks in advance!MeMelYup wrote:Yes. You can copy it in digital format and send it. They gave it to me. It was a nice surprise, I wasn't even expecting it.larryeliz wrote:I will be turning 60 on my next renewal date. Given that I plan to start the renewal process 60 days before my CHL expires will I still be entitled to the Sr. discount? Anyone had experience with this situation.

No, You don't have to send it in every renewal. What he is saying is that it won't transfer from your DL.txglock21 wrote:Sorry to keep on this, but so I get it straight...so you are saying that if you want to keep using the veteran discount, you HAVE to send a copy EVERYTIME you renew? Re: Veteran / Senior Discount
I submitted a copy of the DD-214 that I was given in '80 when I was discharged (honorably). I don't see anywhere on it that indicates the type of discharge it was. Am I not seeing it somewhere, and if it's not there, are they going to kick my application back? I'd call them and ask, but you know how that works...MeMelYup wrote: Yes. You have a short copy and a long copy. The long copy has a white area at the bottom of it that states that you have a honorable, etc. discharge with other information.Bryanmc wrote:I submitted a copy of the DD-214 that I was given in '80 when I was discharged (honorably). Re: Veteran / Senior Discount
I have 5 DD214's all issued prior to 1979. All of them are one short form and say either "Character of Service" or "Type of Transfer of Discharge," (depending on the date of the form) and all say "Honorable" in those blocks. I'm not sure when the "long form" in addition to the "short form" came into use, but in 1978 and prior, there was only one form (8 1/2 x 11), and showed the type/character of discharge.MeMelYup wrote:You have a short copy and a long copy. Mine, issued 80/05/23 is smaller than 8.5 x 11 and has sections numbered 1 through 22 (it shows the form version date as 1 July 79). I was never given a long form that I recall (although that was a long time ago). I'll be sending an SF-180 to National Records Center today I guess to see about getting the long form.G26ster wrote: I have 5 DD214's all issued prior to 1979.
