Charles L. Cotton wrote:Someone needs to file a complaint with Harris County now. The Rodeo has already made a public statement banning open and concealed carry and that triggers SB273's provisions. The County will have three days to "cure" this notice. Since the notice was oral rather than a sign, the retraction must also be oral. Three days after filing the notice with Harris County, file a complaint with the AG. The AG must give fifteen days to cure and, again, the only cure will be oral retraction. Since the rodeo is more than 15 days away, and lasts more than 15 days to boot, the $1,500 per day per sign fine will attach.

Does it have to be a Harris County resident? I would be happy to file this complaint. As a lifetime HLSR member and a committee captain, I am appalled at their new stance on concealed carry.

I don't there there are any county residency requirements. Go for it.

I've just sent an email to Harris County - Houston Sports Authority staff (Director of Events, Events Manager) and cc'd the CEO & Administrative Manager/Executive Assistant to the CEO. I included links to news articles that quoted the HLSR press release and president's statements regarding the handgun ban.

Let's see what happens.

Nice work TexasCajun!

If we do need a photo, the event opens at 5pm next Thursday and I may be able to get down there to take a photo of the the signage.

Is email sufficient?
Could you please post the email addresses?

All that's required is to deliver notice. Next Tuesday is the deadline I gave for the H-HCSA retraction. If it comes to filling with the AG's office, I can provide proof that the email was sent and to whom.

Normally, I'd say that one point of contact should be sufficient. But since we're dealing with a short deadline of sorts, I don't know if additional contact would help or hurt.

Most of the news agencies that ran the story stated that CC was banned last year as well, I think they may be getting confused with the NRG Stadium portion rather than the whole event. The HLSR seems to be immune from scrutiny of the local news outlets, they have numerous "legal experts", one would think that the producers would have consulted them on the legality of the announcement and ran a piece on it.

Received my response from HLSR:

Howdy!

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, in an effort to provide a safe environment and promote a family-friendly atmosphere at the city’s iconic entertainment event, will prohibit concealed and open carry of handguns by private citizens at the 2016 Show.

The ban includes the WCBBQ as well.

Thanks.

We need as many AG complaints as possible. Pass this to all your 2A friends. Everyone on this board should do this.

Mayhaps those who are familiar with the process could post in this thread exactly what the rest of us need to do. I am familiar with the forms on the TFC website and have read about the process, but some specific directions for this specific complaint would be very helpful to those not up to speed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the complaint has to go to the county, not to HLSR. It is county property and the county would be the ones fined (assuming the law is followed).

I received a response from Harris County - Houston Sports Authority. Apparently, the county has some sort of arrangement with a non profit called Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation that actually is in charge of operations at NRG Stadium. The head honchos over there aren't as forthcoming with their contact info. I called the main number & got no answer. So I faxed the complaint to the number listed on the website.

I'll keep y'all posted on any response (if any) and developments.
