Although the courthouse got knocked down for trying to ban guns last month, The county tax appraisal district office, which is located in the courthouse, has decided that they can ban guns, both open and concealed. They blatantly state that although they cannot legally ban guns, they will refuse to help anyone carrying a gun and reschedule them to a appraisal board hearing later in the year. Since that is a meeting of a governmental entity they can then ban all guns.

Re: Nueces County Apraisal District Bans all Guns
I've actually been there before open carry and had to take my gun back to the car. I thought where there were courts gun are off limits anyway. I wish they wouldn't make this so difficult. It's easy to get confused on where you can carry and who has to post and who doesn't. I just read the law says, you can carry at a government meeting unless 30.06 or .07 is posted. So I guess they aren't breaking any laws. It also says premises that house court or court offices any kind of carry is not allowed unless authorized by the court rule. They don't even have to post signs from what I understand. The appraisal office has a guy at the door checking. So I think there may be a court on the same premises so they are following the law.

there is no court room there. they appraisal property and when the ARB board meets it doesn't meet the Open Meetings Act and the board is made up of citizens, no judges. they used to have a 30.06 posting before the law that imposed fines for doing so and with the help of a friend we were able to get some state reps to help us in getting the signs removed. they were down about a year. The AG's opinion KP-0049 states that any attempt to prohibit firearms in places not restricted in 46.03 and 46.035 is in violation of 411.209. The NCAD is clearly in violation of their refusal to allow a LTC entry in the building to conduct business with them.

IF you're going to act like a donkey, at least they're open and honest about exactly what they're doing. Hopefully someone with a legal brain and a sense of civic responsibility will have better judgement.
