Ruger LCP in an uncle Mike pocket holster! Love it

Pick a couple and go to a place that rents them. Figure out which one will conceal best with your typical dress and body type and fits your hand. Personal opinion I went with the Sig 938 and have not regretted it, with the extended mag you get 7+1 and a second mag is easy to carry. With that said I am not a Glock guy so they never are even considered.

I own both the P238 and P938. I always have the P938 on me, either as a BUG or as primary if I'm dressed too lightly (like sweatpants) for the 1911.

I have more confidence in 9mm than I do .380 but for the recoil sensitive, the P238 is a great choice (with the right ammo). It's a real cream-puff to shoot.

I love my G19, but lately the little Ruger LCP in a leather pocket holster has been with me more often...

Grabagun.com had them for just over $200 before Christmas.

I have a KelTec P3AT, Glock 27, and Kahr PM40. Uncle Mike holsters for all of them.

P3AT is by far the most convenient. Can carry in anything from a suit at a wedding to a bathing suit.

Khar PM40 is my favorite, but in anything tight fitting or when playing golf, it seems a little big

Glock 27 is doable but it has always felt cumbersome.

Another vote for the Sig 938. If you have to pocket carry (which I do) then this is a very reliable gun.

Another vote for the LC9(s)(pro).

At one point, I owned both a Shield and an LC9s. I normally carry a double stack compact AIWB so the single stack is primarily carried in the pocket. While both guns have similar dimensions, but the rear of the LC9 slide is slanted towards the front of the gun, making it easier to pull from a pocket compared to the straight cut of the back of the Shield slide. This is the main reason I kept the LC9s and sold the Shield.

Pick one that fits comfortably in the pocket, and you enjoy shooting. It is a personal thing.

What? G21 is not on the list???

Seriously, I like the G43. My wife and I both own one and we've had no issues with either one.
IWB or OWB it just disappears. Pocket gives you a little hump, may or may not matter to you

Shot anything from 115 gr WWB to 165 gr +p DT and it fed all without issues.

Carry either 147 gr federal or 124 gr Speer with confidence. :cheers2:

I picked up a Glock 43 for pocket carry. It fits well, however I am getting rid of it. Picked up a Wilson Sentinel ULC. It fit's in my baggy britches.

Of those you listed, I'd go with Glock, and maybe the M&P (no personal experience).
As much as I like the little Sigs, I firmly believe a defensive carry pistol needs to be DA or DA/SA.
I sold my P238, and I carry a LCP.
If you train regularly with a 1911-style gun, SA might be OK for you.

Others you should consider:
Kahr CT380 (G42 equivalent)
Kahr PM9
Ruger LC9s as mentioned.
Keltec PF9

I see a lot of people who are averse to carrying little SAO pistols, specifically In the pocket. My p938 has a trigger pull around 7lbs, it is heavier than the pulls of all my other pistols, many of which other people feel completely safe carrying in their pocket. (Smaller glocks, Kahrs, etc) Seeing as how the SAO Sig is drop safe as are all the others, what is the difference? I'm thinking that a single action with a 7 lb trigger is probably as safe as a Glock with a 5.5 lb trigger, even if carried with the safety off...which I wouldn't do but mainly due to conventional wisdom.

So I'm a bit confused and since I own one and carry it a lot I am truly wondering if there is something I'm missing. Is it just the distance that the trigger must travel is less than a traditional striker fired gun? I think the p938 has a firing pin safety but does it operate differently?

I don't want a hole in my leg, so I would appreciate some clarity on this issue.

So, on your list, I love the Sig 938, but you need a roomy pocket to accommodate pistol plus pocket holster. As far as others, I have a Ruger LCP that is with me almost always, and always in a pocket. Very light, very reliable, accurate to a point (that point being about 15 yds), and dirt simple to use. Always carry it with one in the pipe, only safety being the one between your ears (and a forever long trigger).

Glock 43 with +1 Taran mag plate. Gives me 7+1 with virtually no extension of the mag.

Glock goodness in the palm of yourhand. :hurry:

It's going to depend upon the size of the pockets. I'm a 32" waist, and a G43 in Levis pockets is too big, and drawing it is cumbersome. Don't get me wrong, I love my G43 (with TTI +2 base pads), but I still find it a little big in the pocket, even with stock mags.

Therefore, for pocket carry, I prefer my Kahr PM9 (Concealment Solutions Pocket Viper Holster).
