Yup...

I agree 100%

Or they got a lot of pressure from an activist's group supporting Bloomberg
Maybe, but I wouldn't attribute to conspiracy what can be explained by incompetence. Regular readers here are probably more knowledgeable than 90% of the business owners on the handgun laws. If they're advised to just put up both signs, either because they're considering that barring guns may mean only a marginal loss of business, or inaccurately that their potential liability puts their business at risk if they allow guns inside. I say most will decide, why take the chance? That may be why so many are posting both signs. Sadly, 30.07 will be a net loss for personal protection in Texas.

If it was really one of my favorites and I couldn't find a similar alternative, I'd....

Drive around the place several times, checking for 'hides', sight lines and/or any obvious places where a threat might conceal;
Once satisfied, I'd drive to and park (facing outward) in the closest and most direct route to the door;
I'd place my carry weapon (PX4 or LCR, depending on attire) in a concealed but easily accessible area in my car;
I'd vacate the car, keeping low and using available cover and concealment to egress the building;
Once inside, I'd visually check the hostess for weapons, (frisking her if possible);
I'd insist on a table with good sight lines and my back to the wall;
I'd order from a pre-determined menu, probably soup, and would insist on being provided with a large steak knife, which I would conceal in my sleeve to cover my exit;
While eating, I would be constantly vigilant, in particular watching the bus boys hands, for any too-aware diners or any off-schedule attempts to refill my tea glass;
I'd eat and pay as quickly as possible, paying in cash so that the restaurant staff cannot gather any intel on me from my credit cards;
Once finished, I'd take an unexpected and indirect route for the door, scanning 360 for any threats, pausing at the door to recon the area in and around my vehicle and my departure route;
I'd click the door opener on my key fob from inside the restaurant and from behind cover, in case someone has planted an IED on my car while I was eating;
Then, a quick dash to car, again keeping low and using available cover and concealment, recovering my weapon, one more 360 scan of the parking lot and departure route;
Then starting the car and departing the area in a serpentine manner, remaining unbelted until clear of the area in the event my car is disabled by gunfire and I have to exfiltrate on foot.

Can't wait to go back.

Pure co-inkeydink. :mrgreen: I just thought it might be time for a change.

Yeah, right!

I've long suspected that Santa spent the winter months in Texas. Now I know for certain. :mrgreen:

"But after my stint in the military lining up for chow there is no restaurant on this planet I'd wait 30 minutes to eat at, much less an hour --especially the Olive Garden."

Funny you should say that. Exactly the position of my father when we were growing up. Same reason as yours. He would add 'and pay for it, too?' :cheers2:

Does anyone have a kind of stock letter for mailing business that post 30.07/30.06 signs? There are more eloquent people around this forum than I :)

It took me a loooooong time to shed my chow hall (excuse me, dining facility) eating habits after I was out.

I remember fondly being shouted at to "SHUT UP AND EAT!

Yes, I sure do miss the old chow hall.

I tell the newly posted establishment that not only are they no longer my favorite, but in fact are now on my "no go" list. Then I go find a new favorite that values my business and believes in my right to personal self defense.
