So the police should pull every car over every day to make sure you have a drivers license? It just makes it look like someone who is open carrying is automatically doing something illegal.
that's a bad analogy Winters. maybe you should have asked if Walmart asks everyone who drives on their property for a DL?

Good gosh, stop with the hyperbole, drama and comparisons that do not fit. You will find if you did a little research I am very much against cops stopping people for no reason other than the fact they are carrying a handgun legally.
We are not talking about cops on the street here. We are talking about a private property owner that has a liquor license they need to protect and they may deem asking to verify a chl status to be the best way for them.

Just like someone thinks I said I had some right to be on their property anyway. Shopping at most walmarts without some sort of weapon is taking a risk in the first place. And yes I agree the police are assuming people are guilty.

This is a situation where being polite to the Wal-Mart staff will go a long, long way in making them feel comfortable with open carry. If you're OCing in their store and they ask to see it, show them your CHL and all the while be cheerful, polite, and act like its the most normal thing in the world. It will ease their anxiety and make you seem like you aren't some weirdo. It'll make the OC crowd look a lot better too and may give them pause to re-evaluate their own assumptions about OC based on what they've seen on news reports vs. what they're now seeing in real life

Your "right" or privilege comes with conditions in this instance. They do not have to allow you in their store. If you refuse to show your chl to confirm you have one, they can terminate your "tight" or privilege to be there. They have a vested interest in confirming you have a chl if you are going to open carry.
This still has nothing to do with cops stopping people on the street.

This guy gets it. This is all part of that "Adjustment period" that we have been talking about. Just show your LTC and be on your way.
As someone said, if they want to take a picture, or copy down info off of the card, well then they can stick it where the sun don't shine.

At what point does walmart have a burden of proof issue that LEO's don't??? The crazy issue here is TABC suggesting that walmart employees are to enforce the LAW. This makes ZERO sense. If you approach a CRIMINAL and start harassing him about ID, I think that may pose a safety concern.
And so I'm clear- TABC rules say it's not ok for a CRIMINAL to open carry in a store that sells alcohol, but they can CC in the same store??? Well, now that private employees are enforcing the law, I bet we can save some tax dollars and fire all the TABC agents and LEO's!
Lunacy knows no bounds.
I feel for the employees, and agree that being polite to them is the right thing to do. (for a variety of reasons)

Since they are the property owner, I personally wouldn't have a problem with showing my ID... but it can't happen every 10 minutes with different employees. I would just ask for the manager and show it to them once.
I guess i think of it like if i was carrying some paid for merchandise around (drink, whatever) and they asked if I purchased it... I would show my receipt, less they think I stole it and call LE. This feels analogous to me...

The article states that if the door greeter or cashier sees someone open carrying they are to notify the "highest ranking employee" (the acting manager) to confirm the legal status.
