Wholesalers ALREADY running out of ARs!

#1

Post by Pawpaw »

With the latest terror attack, noise about gun control EOs about to come out of the Whitehouse, and the noise Hillary and the rest of the Democrats are making about next year being the "Gun Control Election", there has been a MAJOR run on ARs and the supply chain is drying up.

Once that is exhausted, AR building supplies will get scarce and expensive too. If you've been thinking of buying or building, you'd better get on the stick.

I've got a stripped upper and lower waiting for pickup. Maybe I need to expidite the purchase process on my other parts -- or does that just add to the problem?

Whatever this latest "scare" does now will eventually end up in even lower prices for AR's and parts. I would not worry, there may be a temporary shortage but there will be an excess when it is all said and done. Until this latest shooting there was an excess on the market, in the last few months I have see AR's on clearance at my distributors, even the big names like Colt. I seriously doubt any gun control will pass that will have any affect. Manufacturers like Anderson are selling their lowers dirt cheap and with over 150 makers of AR's that are flooding the market eventually some will go out of business. If you want something just hang on, prices will drop . It is like the stock market, don't buy when prices are high due to panic, buy when they are low (and sell what you have when people are paying high prices). Heck, during the 2012/13 panic the prices for AR's were high enough that I sold my 5.56 AR and paid for a Sig 716. If prices get high enough I will sell the Sig and wait for prices to drop and pick up a SCAR or HK in .308.

I don't have a need or desire for another at this time. However, I had been debating some 7.62x51 174gr ammo and the night the San Bernardino thing happened my wife asked if there was anything I'd like to get before things got crazy again. She's so awesome! I placed the order that night and it should arrive today. I also picked up some more 5.56 from a friend that has too much for a good price. Too much? LOL

It's going to get weird for a little while again and might stay that way until he's gone. 406 DTG

Another anecdote: http://knuckledraggin.com/2015/12/43191/#comments
I was in my local gun shop this morning wrapping up some business and Pat, one of the owners, was talking to a customer. I was waiting, so naturally I was eavesdropping. The guy bought a J framed revolver and then asked why they didn’t sell ARs or AKs. Pat laughed and said they do, but after the last terrorist attack, he was sold out by the next day. Not only that, but he can’t get any more at this time.

If I buy a few lowers right now do you think I would be dodging a major part of the cost and also keeping my future build plans alive? Or will all parts skyrocket? This is the first time this has happened where I am actually affected by the "potential ban" so I am new to this.

Generally the cost of full ARs go up, parts not as much (but still some and some hard to find). Stripped lowers go up some.

I just bought 5 lowers today (couldn't pass up the deal). Going to give a couple to family, 1 will be a future pistol build, and the other two, who knows.

I picked up a couple of stripped lowers a year or so ago. Was a good deal, and couldn't pass it up. Want to turn one into a 300 blackout suppressed sbr. Just haven't gotten around to it. Need to buy a vice block and wrench, the rest we have somewhere. Just make a trip down to my parents, no reason to buy tools that are freely available. Plus mama's home cooking.

Well, Primary Arms has complete BCM lowers and Troy uppers.

If the market is going up for a while, I wouldn't mind selling a few AR's. I will believe it when I see it. I didn't see much change at the gun show last weekend.

I think I'm gonna buy a 3 pack of Anderson lowers for 110.00 from old dominion, and then 2 aero precision just to be on the safe side.

If you haven't Form 1'd your lower yet, you may be running out of time (next month). Look into ATF 41-P.

Nah, I'll be fine. My legal address is back home. We know the county sheriff fairly well. Getting a signature won't be an issue. Why I haven't been in a huge rush over it.
