Unscientific, but fun. :lol::
Surprised to see this in the Valley. I'm from the Valley and I regularly have family, who own guns themselves, decry carrying guns. However, the decry it not because of safety or because of the principle of the thing. They decry it because it means you don't know how to defend yourself otherwise. My brother in law told me over thanksgiving (who owns several handguns and rifles but refuses to carry), "You know that most of the people who carry guns carry them because they either can't or don't want to learn how to defend themselves." He then went on to say that a man who carries a gun is less of a man than he is. Its a bunch of macho poodoo.
And people like myself that are crippled?
You don't have to be crippled to need a gun for self-defense. One guy with a knife or gun will ruin this guy's day, as might a guy with a baseball bat or a piece of rebar. Or just someone big and mean with a lot less to lose.

The Herald should proof read it's headlines.

I'm not really sure what the poll question is asking.

It's #1, a "newspaper" and #2, in Brownsville. Proof read? "rlol"

86% - and whole 'less of a man argument' is stupid. I'm not going to start a fight, and if someone starts a deadly confrontation to me, I'm under no obligation to fight fair.

Absolutely. My dad said if you ever find yourself in a fair fight, you've made a serious mistake in planning.

86/14 as well, when I voted.

Don't forget, the Valley is heavily Democrat and voted in large numbers for the Traitor in Chief both times so it wouldn't surprise me if the majority is anti-gun. But that last line is especially funny coming from someone living there. "rlol" I also used to live there and still have family there.
I grew up there. The ironic thing is most people really don't have the values reflective of the Democratic platform. Many just vote that way because the very well-oiled political machine, usually via the Politiqueras, tells them to vote that way. I'm actually considering an opportunity to move back. It's attractive due to family closeness. However, it's things like that that bring me to hesitate. Your all too true comment below about Brownsville and proofreading is yet another reason to hesitate.
I spent my high school years there and a decade of my working years after leaving the military. My wife is from Brownsville. My father had an FFL and we used to drive up to McAllen to buy guns at a place on 10th street. We rode out the hurricanes by "fleeing" to Harlingen. It was nice back then...not sure I'd want to live on the McAllen end of the Valley these days but the East end is probably still ok even though places like Brownsville and Harlingen have also seen an explosion of growth.

The Valley was a great place to live back in my high school days and when I was working there. I've lost touch since my father died and I moved my mother up here.

Yep. Whether an attacker is unarmed or not, I do not consent, and will not be forced into participating in a fist fight. I'm not interested in proving how much of a man I am, and fist fights can turn deadly pretty quickly. I've heard of people dying from getting punched in the throat, temple, nose, or falling and hitting their head on a curb. If someone tries to engage me in a fight (which I wouldn't have started, and would have attempted to de-escalate), they're going to be meeting my little friend.
