My favorite part is that they are no more a school than my house is... but apparently they all got together and said "our mission is to educate about animals, so then we are a school..."

AG's office will have fun with this, then TX LEG gets their swing at it in 2017.

My CHL class is to educate on the proper and legal use of guns. So I guess I have a school and we can't have guns at my CHL class. Now that's ironic.

It's a tricky question, how to respond if I'm ever asked why I think I need to have a gun to see cute critters.

It's not a tricky question for me. As has been said before: it's not the odds, it's the stakes.

The odds of needing the smoke detectors in my house are low. But state law still requires them.

Huh. I wonder if they know it's a Class C misdemeanor to possess or sell alcohol on publicly-owned educational property throughout the state. I guess I'll call the TABC tomorrow.

I bet you they care way more about their two licenses then the threat of the AG investigating for a few months. TABC don't play around.

Guess we all need to stop CCing in petsmart, petco and any other pet store that does training. They must be a school to. At least the pet stores have a written curriculum for their classes, and your dog gets a certificate for graduating that class. We should all plan an open carry day at the zoo when the signs come down.

The 1st was referring to paper and pen, hand-pressed newspapers, and standing in the pulpit." They very quickly shut up. I loved that win.

The answer is always "That's muh rights!!!!" And I retort with, "So is the right to keep & bear arms... even if you don't like it."

The 2nd Amendment at the time covered muskets. rifles, cannon mortars and grenades. amongst other things.

Another note that nobody discusses or really knows is the word "militia" in the 2A…

People today assume it means an organized, somewhat paramilitary group that people signed up for or enlisted with, etc.

It doesn't and it didn't. In their day, that word was clear to them to mean "everybody" or essentially every able-bodied person who could fight. There was no formal militia as we think of it today. It was just 'we the people' who were the militia… everybody.

Regarding the "well regulated" mention in the 2nd, I've never had much luck arguing it means well equipped and smoothly running.

A better argument, I've found, is to point out when a printer runs off a four color job he takes care to make sure his colors are properly registered.

That doesn't mean he fills out a government form. Properly registered colors are properly aligned. Likewise, a militia would not be well regulated and able to serve its purpose if was burdened with harsh limitations.

That's why well regulated is best interpreted to mean well running. At least that's how it registers to me, and there I go again with another 'reg' word that doesn't involve expensive, poorly running government bureaucracy.

Even if the founders meant the militia to act under some kind of government structure, antithetical to individual behavior, they said well regulated.

They didn't say tyrannically regulated.

Yep, the founders said well regulated when they wrote the 2nd Amendment, right there on the paper.

The University of Texas has multiple places on campus that serve alcoholic beverages and have TABC licenses. They even claim (incorrectly) in their weapons recommendations that two are 51% locations.

Of course, I am not sure that I believe UT is an educational institution any more than I do the Houston Zoo is , which is one of the reasons I go to Texas State University.
