Haas's son attends UT where campus carry will soon go into effect. She has met with campus officials including the police chief to discuss prevention methods. Her recommendation is to establish a threat assessment team with access to concealed carry permit information.
Bad bad idea.

"Her recommendation is to establish a threat assessment team with access to concealed carry permit information."

For what purpose?

To deputize or accuse?

"Let's say a professor has concern, a real serious concern about a student threatening self-harm or to others, someone knows that person has a concealed carry permit, maybe interventions can be taken to save that person's life or others," said Haas.
Interesting statement. Not "someone knows that person has a gun," but "someone knows that person has a concealed carry permit."

Her daughter was murdered in a campus shooting by someone that didn't have a government license and carried a gun where the law didn't allow.

My heart goes out to her for her loss. The particular brand of insensitivity I suffer from also causes me to mourn no law abiding citizen with a gun could have at least moderated the loss of life.

Very sad, all around.

I wonder how many of the tweakers, gangs, thugs, robbers and all around murderers in the greater Houston area will be attending.

We need people to attend these meetings and speak out, intelligently and reasonably. The first thing they need to understand is they are not going to get LTC information. That is against the law. They also need to be educated on what the laws are and what the record of LTC holders is over the past 20 years.

If they are serious about improving mental health reporting, all well and good, but people's rights must be respected as well.

Did the DPS not perform a threat assessment before they issued the CHL?

The colleges need to provide better counseling. If a professor is having a problem with a student and the student exhibits violent tendencies they should be able to refer the student to counseling. The proper counseling will help in a variety of ways, to include suicide prevention. That is if the professors can recognize the students that counseling would help.

CHL information is confidential by statute and cannot be provided to any schools.

Does that include university police departments?

Criminal justice agencies can get the information if it's part of a criminal investigation. Campus PD can't get it just to see which students have a CHL.

they also need to understand that we don't like "gun violence". Let's face it, we don't like violence, no one does.

It's also against the law. The CHL holder's database is not accessible to some vigilante libtard organization.
