I carry 10 + 1 in my XD 45 compact. I keep another 10 rd mag on the opposite side horizontally in a nylon tool pouch, so I carry 21 total.

I wish I could find a slightly larger tool pouch so I can carry the 13 rd mag.

I will carry one more mag if I happen to be wearing cargo shorts since I can drop an extra mag in my cargo pocket. If I am travelling I will carry all my spare mags loaded with me in the vehicle and usually a long gun too. I run across numerous people that will only carry their firearm and no extra ammo, I have even talked to some that will only carry a two shot derringer with no extra ammo. I like to be prepared for the worse and hope that I will never need any of it.
Ever have any reliability issues shooting those G20 Mags in the 29? I can't get mine to feed reliably (old style, new lined mags or either with the adapter that fits on the end of the G20 mag).
No problems at all.

Thanks for the reply, guess I need to get it checked.

Some of the posts here suggest that they make horizontal mag holders. Do they?

Nope. I carry 16 rounds total in my firearm of choice, and if that doesn't get me out of trouble, I'm in really big trouble and more ammo probably isn't the solution. It's likely that, if I look like I'm running out of bullets, I've overstayed my welcome and it's past time to depart the premises.

I know there can be circumstances that require additional ammo, but it's my understanding that the typical street shootout involves four or less bullets total fired by both sides. That is, somebody shoots a round or two, other party runs or shoots back. At that point, one or both parties is fleeing.

I do carry a box of ammo in every vehicle though, and lately I've been considering having a loaded magazine in whatever I'm driving even if I don't plan to carry it on my body.

Cool, I need to research it, because the vertical ones are a no-go due to them poking me in the gut.

I mentioned above that I keep my spare mag horizontal. My mag is in a nylon tool pouch (like for a Leatherman or Gerber multitool), and not an actual mag pouch. The tool pouch can hang either horizontal or vertical, and can only fit one mag.

Yes they do. Hollis Holsters is a good honest man and makes some great ones in kydex.

Sure do! My horizontal holster sits right next to my flashlight.

I carry a total of 35 rounds of 9mm, 17+1 in gun and a 17 round spare mag.

I don't use a mag holder regularly, the ones I have are vertical and can be uncomfortable driving, usually its in my pocket
