EU to ban semi automatic rifles.

I have not heard if the AK-47's used in the attack were full auto or semi auto. I assumed they were full auto as I suspected they were easy to illegally get in Europe.

“Which of the EU countries issued a permit for the islamic gun terrorists from Paris?”, Firearms United founder Andrzej Turczyn asked. “None of the terrorists had been able to possess a weapon with a permit. But these laws did not stop the Islamists from committing a hideous crime in Paris. For what reason, therefore, proposes the European Commission now – after the assassination in Paris – limited access to firearms for law-abiding Europeans? Others, like criminals or terrorists, do not pay attention to the law at all.”
Looks like some in the EU still have some common sense...

Full auto or semi is difficult to know at this point. The media sees the word automatic and assumes that it is a machine gun.

However, that is the reaction I'd expect from the EU. :banghead:

The terrorists' weapons were certainly full auto. They do not rely on "gun shows" and other such nonsense to gather their weapons, they supply their cells from the same sources they supply their paramilitaries. If you read up on these style attacks (Mumbai, Nairobi, etc), a great deal of planning and logistical set up goes into these attacks, they aren't dropping off guys and expecting them to arm themselves on the local economy.

There is really only one market for semi-auto AK pattern rifles, and even though many of them are made overseas, you are unlikely to find a semi-auto AK anywhere else but the US. It's just as easy -- easier in fact -- for ISIS, Iran, and other sponsors to get the standard (full auto) AKs.

The EU's proposal was obviously drafted long before Paris, they are just "not letting a crisis go to waste" to try to implement what they already decided on long ago. Probably what's really scaring the EUcrats are the stories of the citizenry buying up guns in response to the 'refugee' invasion.

The European governments realize that their actions against their own people are brewing the potential for significant revolt and they have good reason to fear the consequences. Of course they don't want armed citizens. Automatic weapons are easily obtained in continental Europe. The criminal element can get them in the UK....they can even get grenades there (a guy attacked two unarmed female officers in the UK with grenades awhile back). Belgium is said to be awash with weapons and they are easily obtained in France and the rest of the countries in Europe.

From what I heard on the news, the AKs may have been full auto but they were fired in semiauto mode.
