As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Of angle grinders and plowshares

From the same global wireline networks giving our NSA heartburn comes this gem:

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/1 ... your-guns/

I fully support, without endorsing or understanding, anyone's right to demilitarize with prejudice his implements of freedom, and in this case I also breathe a sigh of relief.

Nowhere in his diatribe did he mention clearing the weapon before grinding his poor guileless pistol into bits, or the use of safety glasses or hearing protection during his labors. That is a bad example for our children.

My eyebrows rightfully arch at the thought of anyone unschooled in basic safety in possession of an intact gun.

That danger is past, at least until another gun (or angle grinder) can infiltrate his happy home. At which time, logic says, he and his kids need to know a little more about basic safety.

And if we want to make jokes - and I've certainly had unworthy thoughts I'll keep to myself about comparing voluntary gun destruction to, say, adult diaper fetishes - we should also recognize there is hope for this guy. With a little education he could be a good, if helpless, citizen.

After all, he says he sent in the paperwork to show his gun was destroyed.

And we all know that when sheep turn their guns into junk, only criminal sheep will have unregistered junk.

This is a modern twist all right.

You are not individually responsible for your own acts and omissions in this "no fault" culture, but each of us is vicariously responsible for the acts and omissions of others, all others, in whatever "injustices" the loonies can come up with.

Resistance is futile. You too will be assimilated.

Yikes!
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

So I'm waiting to hear from him about destroying his car, cutting the handles off his hammers, hatchets and axes, sawing his baseball bats in half and let's go a step further dumping his Tylenol in the toilet. Those are all evil and owning them makes him responsible for countless deaths according to his own argument. You can't cure lunacy!

Actually don't dump the tylenol in the toilet. Cities are already complaining that they can't filter all the drugs dumped into the water supply well enough as is.

You read stuff like this and other stupidity and you have to wonder just how low the commonsense and intelligence of this country has dropped. An uncle of my committed suicide with a gun. Am I going to blame the gun? Of course not. If he was intent on doing it, he would have found some way.

The really unfortunate thing is that you can't have a reasonable conversation with people like him or the hysterical people that you read about that almost wet themselves with the fear of blood running in the streets from all of the crazed gun owners.
If you're standing still, you're loosing.

It isn't a crisis or anything but is happening. Here is a usa today story on it. There are plenty of scare articles on various sites out there. I just wanted to mention it because fresh water is going to become more of a concern the more people we get on this planet. No reason to mess up the water we drink anymore than we have to. Especially if all it takes is tossing the pills in a trashcan instead of flushing them.
