I have Marine Corps plates on my truck and wife's Expedition. I hope a LEO might feel sorry for an old Vet and give me a warning vs a ticket. The registration fee is based on when your current registration expires. Since your military plates are new, you start over with your windshield sticker so the amount you pay is good for another year. I don't know how the state inspection thing will work now since that is based on the registration date.

Toll exemption is only for TxDOT toll roads. For details, check:
https://www.txtag.org/en/about/faq_veteran.shtml
For instance, the North Texas Tollway authority has very limited exemptions.

In Central Texas, I am not charged for SH130, but I am charged for tolled portions of US290 and US183.

I find it odd that fees are waved for the Air Medal, and Bronze Star, but not for the Distinguished Flying Cross which is a higher award than both of those.RoyGBiv wrote:ETA: https://www.dfwairport.com/cs/groups/pu ... 122613.pdfRoyGBiv wrote:My Navy vet neighbor told me a few weeks ago that his plates get him free parking at the airport. I don't recall which commendation is noted on his plates but it's not the standard "US Navy" plate. I don't recall if that perk requires a specific commendation plate or whether the branch of service plates are sufficient. Might be worth checking into if your car spends a lot of time at the airport.
Fees are waived for vehicles bearing disabled veteran plates, or license plates of Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, Pearl Harbor survivors, Purple Heart FY 2014 Schedule of Charges Effective 10-01-13 20 recipients, Legion of Valor Medal recipients, Legion of Merit Medal recipients, WWII Veteran, Defense Superior Service Medal, Military Specialty License Plates for Extraordinary Service, Bronze Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Air Medal, Air Medal with Valor recipients, Distinguished Service Medal recipients, Air Force Cross, Air Force Distinguished Service Cross recipients, Army Distinguished Service Cross recipients, Navy Cross recipients, Silver Star Medal recipients,
or former POW’s from Texas or any other state.

My plates are gun-related, but I bet very few people who see me on the road get it.
