Texas State Fair

Re: Texas State Fair
Wife & I went to the fair yesterday with her parents. We rode the train there so we were going in with a crowd. There was a very loud person working one of the wands, perhaps a supervisor?
I looked for one of the guards who appeared bored and went thru his line. I had my wallet, cellphone & keys out like they requested.
Guard simply pointed the wand toward either side of me & waved me thru. I don't even think he had it turned on.
Needless to say, wand never went off so there was no reason for me to say anything to anyone. Proves that safety is just an illusion to appease those scared of everything. There was an officer in the stand, and I saw someone ahead of me show chl to him with a simple wave to go on in.
A helpful tip to those who want to save money, there is a musuem that sits off to the side of the train entrance. It's off of the fair property and has water & sodas for only $1. The water in the fair is about $3.

Re: Texas State Fair
When you go, make sure to have your CHL and DL in your hand. When you make contact with the security guard - don't tell him you are armed, just ask to speak to the supervisor, and show your CHL. They shouldn't wand you, but send you to the police officer posted at the entrance. Show your licenses to the police officer and you are in - usually with some sort of silly warning like, "make sure you keep your weapon concealed...".magillapd wrote:Wife & I went to the fair yesterday with her parents. I would not advise anyone to try to get through the entrance by looking for the bored security guard. If he were to wand you, you could likely get a MWAG call.
Re: Texas State Fair
For the last two years I have carried at the fair and was wanded at the turnstiles. In both cases the wand didn't alert and in both cases I went directly to the supervisor, showed them my CHL and filed a complaint for the worthless security measures there. If I can get through with a gun how many others do you think are on the grounds illegally.

Re: Texas State Fair
Just wanted to chime in here. I carried at the fair this past weekend. I was admittedly a little anxious about walking in because I've only had my CHL for about a month so this was the most public place and the longest amount of time I've had my firearm on me. I was planning to just quietly show my CHL to the security person doing the wanding, but quite frankly upon seeing the people working security I didn't feel too comfortable with that so instead I got out of line and just walked up to the officer sitting up in a stand beside the security line and handed him my CHL he just smiled and said to go on through.

Re: Texas State Fair
Remember the 2002 movie "Soul Man"?
What do you think would happen if I followed the movie story line and entered the Texas State Fair with a weapon, with a Chl?...
This sounds like a very interesting fact checking event.
I'm going to try it and report back to you soon. ....

My wife and I went to the fair yesterday. We got there early and the line was short. I asked the person about chl entrance and she immediately escorted us through the entrance and up to the officer inside the gate. After a quick look at our identification, she said thank you and have a great day.

Wife & I attended the Fair yesterday. Walked up to the LEO in the elevated booth, handed him my CHL and DL. He looked intently at both, handed them back and said, "Have a nice day." and motioned me through. A few minutes later I realized that he never asked me to remove my big straw hat or sunshades as I expected.

Re: Texas State Fair
Well, well, well! I went to the fair on Sunday and I carried.
For the first time in 4 years the turnstile attendant who used the wand found something and asked me to take everything out of my pockets. Maybe my complaints for the last three years made a difference.
Anyway I just showed him my CHL and he waved me through.
I think they must have adjusted the tuning.

Re: Texas State Fair
I carried today at the State Fair and had a similar experience to many that already posted (except the officer I dealt with was fairly rude and unfriendly). Here's my question...why did they also want to see my DL after I showed my CHL? Is this just some meaningless security measure that they do to make themselves feel safer (similar to the wands which seldom catch anything)?
Re: Texas State Fair
I haven't been asked for both before at the fair, but they are supposed to match. Maybe this officer was just checking that.IlliniBill wrote:I carried today at the State Fair and had a similar experience to many that already posted (except the officer I dealt with was fairly rude and unfriendly). Re: Texas State Fair
Wondered if you meant that. Nope, don't agree with that then. I'll agree with all except for the address as there is simply no requirement listed anywhere that says that your DL and CHL address must be the same. I'll agree that they both must be your legal address, but as I explained here, someone can have two different legal addresses:Mel wrote:Name, DOB, address, picture, DL number, etc.Glockster wrote:Both supposed to match? And someone else there also offered up another example (LEOs having different addresses for their protection).
