Is that too complicated to imagine, a timed bomb comprises of timer and a bomb. A bomb comprises of an explosive material and an initiator/primer/cap a device to start the explosive material. Whatever it was in that case is just the timer/clock thingy.mrvmax wrote:Since you seem to be an expert on explosives, how many real bombs have you seen? As the photo above shows it looks like, and is, a disassembled alarm clock. I get that scientific and technical knowledge in this country is at pretty pathetic levels, but one would pretty much have to be a technophobe or have a pretty lurid imagination to turn something so obviously prosaic into an explosive device. The idea of a hoax bomb is to make people think it's a bomb. That could have easily been accomplished by adding something that could be mistaken for an explosive charge. That "hoax bomb" wouldn't have hoaxed my grandma.
What is wrong with you guys? Any kid at school has a cell phone more advanced and more dangerous than that the timer/clock thingy in that case. I do not need to say more.

Beiruty, Can you not see where this could be used as a major component of a bomb? How would you react if he already had the explosives in his locker or chemistry class room and then put the two together and detonated it injuring or killing someone? Would you be upset the school officials didn't stop him?
You act as if the kid ate his pop tart into what looked like a bomb. That's not the case. What the kid had was much more realistic looking.

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested
I think as has been suggested previously, if anybody thought it was remotely likely to be a bomb and they didn't call an evacuation and the bomb squad then they were stupid. I don't think they were stupid, I believe they realized that it was no more likely to be a bomb than a book bag with a cell phone sticking out.
I also have an idea that it possibly could be considered a "hoax bomb" although based on the kids demeanor (from what I've read), it probably doesn't really meet the definition.
The school officials got played, possibly intentionally, given the CAIR people and other professional victims joining the cause. Likely the same thing would've happened to the kid if he was an evangelical Christian of pallor, except that he wouldn't have gotten sympathetic coverage in the press.
Security theater is all it is. Same as the people that faint at the sight of open carry. If I'm intent on really making a bomb, I'm sure as heck not gonna make it look like it came from a Wiley Coyote cartoon. A CAR anyone? Or maybe a laptop computer. The hard part is getting the part that goes boom, not disguising it.

Of course you need to say more, you are defending him, and unless you have some sort of magical skills you have no way to be sure there are no explosives present in the pictures we have seen. In those pictures I see all but one of the components necessary to assemble an IED, and the component I can't see it the one that is easiest to conceal, the explosive.Beiruty wrote:Is that too complicated to imagine, a timed bomb comprises of timer and a bomb. Indeed, just about any kid has a much more advanced device that can act as part of an IED, which begs the question, why disassemble a clock and reassemble it in a case which is distinctive in its resemblance to an IED? Answer, he is following his father's lead and stirring up hate and discontent.

How Ahmed's clock became a false convenient tale of racism.
"Alex Stone, a 16-year-old white kid from Summerville, SC, wrote a short story in which he imagined using a gun to kill a dinosaur. For this his locker was searched and he was arrested, handcuffed, charged with “disorderly conduct” and suspended from school for three days."

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested
I have seen real bombs and they do not always look like they do in the movies. I can make one that you would not be able to recognize, heck, I could use the one the kid "made" and you would not know it was real. It is actually more complicated than you think and you seem to keep defending him but the facts are coming out and it is obvious what he was doing. This was not a clock he made, it was a device he took apart and placed in the case. It was not an invention, it was something he put together to elicit a response. You can keep defending him but the facts are against you.Beiruty wrote:Is that too complicated to imagine, a timed bomb comprises of timer and a bomb. I'm out of here too, at this point it is pretty cut and dry on what he did. I'm sure there will be more people like Zuckerberg and Obama that will continue to fall for the ploy that he "made" a clock and those that will defend him even when there is no defense.
Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested
He hasn't even really said why he did this. And I would also like to know why he changed it to a countdown timer. If he was going to pretend to "make" a clock, why not keep it going forward instead of changing it to count down?
Imagine the horror from the left if an average run of the mill white kid had done this.

Re: Nerdy 14 year old brings homemade clock to school and is arrested
I can chew a piece of Semtex into a butterfly and then decorate it with frosting and detonators for legs. The I'll be sure to hand it to my kid's teacher so she can keep it in her desk until lunch, when she can then call Homeland Security, ATF, and Dallas SWAT. I've seen lots of real ordnance and it didn't look a like a Radio Shack Microntix Digital clock. Then again, the bomb that blew up Pan Am 103 was in a regular looking Jam Box (or "Boom" Box...). If a 14 year old kid walks up to me and shows me a countdown suitcase, I'm going to lock it up until school's out and then tell him "Ha ha, try again...". It's about context, people...This whole thing looks like a setup by CAIR so they could whine about Islamophobia or some such.
None of you, nor I, know what a suitcase nuke looks like, but I'll take my chances that a little kid named Ahmed in Irving doesn't have one. Maybe you could say I'm willing to be the "test case"...

Very interesting article. A coordinated attack on the mayor and a staged photo of the kid in handcuffs.mojo84 wrote:I am not convinced his intentions were pure and innocent.

It appears, the “clock” Mohamed brought to school this week was not the first of his circuit boards to look ominously like an improvised explosive device trigger. In fact, a photograph of one circulated by the Dallas Morning News was virtually indistinguishable from a circuit board used in a commercially available device used to train law enforcement and military personnel regarding how to identify IEDs.

Here's another article with a video that explains the characteristics of Ahmed's clock that show he just took a manufactured clock out of its case.

I wonder if the whole thing was staged precisely to get the kind of reaction they got: getting invited by the apologist-in-charge to bring a "device" into the White House?" You think after all the reaction to "Islamaphobia" that the Secret Service would check very carefully?
