As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

OK, you guys have had your fun. Here's what's really at stake.

We all know you need a pit of weapons grade plutonium to make a nuke. What is more difficult is detonating it precisely to make a collapse create to a nuclear yield.

The risk is on the rest of the unique parts, probably proprietary and certainly classified special parts to make that happen. With the advent of 3D CAD, all of these parts are just files on some computer, waiting to be hacked and emailed to any idiot with a 3D printer or NC mill to make the special parts necessary to complete the weapon.

The forming of the enclosure for the bomb is likely trivial compared with the other aspects. Anybody with a milling machine has probably been able to do it for the last 50 years. Now I can buy a CNC machine...so what. How about making the trigger, and creating and forming the HE to create exactly the right force to implode the fissile material.

The part that's not trivial is refining the plutonium a la Iran. Until somebody can 3D print 10,000 centrifuges and toms of Uranium Hexafluoride, Dr. LSU is still an idiot. :biggrinjester:

BTW you CAN buy a 3D milling machine for $1200 that can drill and print AR-15 lowers with no S/N. And it's legal too.

Well now that you mention it, he does look like another one one of the comics that was on SNL....maybe, unlike Al, he chose to wear a disguise. :biggrinjester:

No, but we might need to start background checks and registration for anybody wanting to become a college professor.

I am sort of glad these idiots don't understand that anyone (not a felon) can buy a gun face to face without a background check legally. I fear for their health if they ever find out (well maybe fear is not the right word).

And anyone, felon or not, can make a simple single-shot firearm from easily available bits and pieces. Not legally, of course, but if they were concerned with legalities they wouldn't be a felon in the first place.

You realize those are two different people right? The author is an asst. professor and got his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh. The co-author is a PhD candidate. The author:
My research focuses on issues relating to International Relations, particularly the subfields of International Political Economy (IPE) and conflict processes, and has been published in journals including International Organization, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, and Journal of Policy Modeling. I have taught an introductory undergraduate courses in International Relations, an advanced undergraduate course in International Political Economy, a graduate seminar in International Political Economy, and an introductory graduate seminar in Rational Choice & Game Theory.

He's "teaching" undergrads and grad students and publishing articles in academic journals. Considering the blurb above is intended to be self-promotion you might think he'd work a little harder on either his grammar or his editing.

Someone should warn this LSU assistant professor concerning the rampant use of Dihydrogen Monoxide in our nation's schools and the unquestionable link between DHMO and school violence. Perhaps he could write another article.

"A recent stunning revelation is that in every single instance of violence in our country's schools, including infamous shootings in high schools in Denver and Arkansas, Dihydrogen Monoxide was involved. In fact, students of all ages can often easily acquire DHMO within the assumed safe confines of school buildings. School administrators typically have no idea of precisely how much of the substance available or is in use within their schools."

Does everyone realize that by posting in this thread that they are on the NSA and a multitude of other .gov agencies lists?

OH CRAP! Now I'm on their list! Look. I just stumbled across this thread. Yeah. That's it. I was just warning everyone else. No, really. I was just warning everybody else.

Be right back. Someone is pounding on the front door.
