Texans Respond to License to Carry

Our fellow Texans are not waiting for CHL holders to correct their signage or for LTC holders to show up openly carrying. The discussions are already happening. I feel it is a good idea to know what they are saying.

For myself, I'll continue learning what I can about how my fellow Texans perceive the change that is coming 1/1/16.

I found a couple of the posters in the "Bank" link interesting. There is at least some rational thinking.

I find this comment very telling: "A peer bank is using the 30.06 sign from TASB (that's Texas Association of School Boards) that does a pretty good job streamlining the text to make both English and Spanish fit onto a 2' by 3' poster. I'm in discussion about the ability to customize this poster to our colors/watermark. Then we'll tackle 30.07 signage for 2016."

So they don't intend to abide by the letter of the law.

I work at a place where the open carry issue has had them doing research on prohibiting firearms in the building. We have 26 locations, and they will be putting up 30.07 and 30.06 at all of them...

It will be interesting to see if this has kicked the ant pile. We may see more 30.06 signs since this has been brought to the forefront. Hope people will settle down.

I sure wish average folks could learn that 30.06 and 30.07 signs affect ALMOST NOBODY, only a few who belong to the strongest class of law abiding citizens the state has to offer.

After he and his family were held hostage he changed the bank's policy and allowed CHL holders to bring their weapons to work.

"Because our employees are subject to not only bank robbery but they're subject to things that happened to me because I was held hostage in my home as opposed to in the bank so if anybody was interested we wanted to make it available," Beard said.

Beard also paid for several of his employees to become CHL certified. "

Whether or not it is a good idea for a CHL/LTC holder to inform business owners that their signs are unenforceable may soon be a moot point. Businesses, business organizations, and the media are increasingly getting the word out.

Educating business owners on the correct signage is not necessary. They are already getting an earful.

I thought that this comment was interesting.

The Texas Restaurant Association tells Fox San Antonio most restaurants have not had any problems with concealed carry.

At least most of the restaurants seem to recognize that CHLs are not a threat when concealed. And it isn't too hard to connect the dots that the same people who weren't a problem with CC are the ones who might OC. But gun politics being what they are, the facts are not likely to matter, at least to some.

Thinking and talking about it are one thing. Actually doing something is entirely different. We'll just have to wait & see what happens. Has open carry shined a light on all things gun-related and brought them all to the top of people's minds?? Only time will tell. How long-lasting will this new attention last?? Depends on those who choose to open carry. If everyone keeps their heads and acts rationally (even in the face of perceived oppression), then the initial newness will wear off quickly. If not, then the adjustment period and process will take that much longer.
