An Open Rant Aimed at Those Who Would Repeal the Second Amendment

Fun read.
...When the likes of Rob Delaney and Bill Maher and Keith Ellison say that we need to get rid of the Second Amendment, they are not speaking in a vacuum but reflecting the views of a small but vocal portion of the American population. And they mean it. That being so, here’s the million-dollar question: What the hell are they waiting for? Go on, chaps. Bloody well do it.

Seriously, try it. Start the process. Stop whining about it on Twitter, and on HBO, and at the Daily Kos. Stop playing with some Thomas Jefferson quote you found on Google. Stop jumping on the news cycle and watching the retweets and viral shares rack up. Go out there and begin the movement in earnest...

Hillary and Schumer want to repeal the First amendment to ban groups of people from making political statements. First, Second, they don't like any of them.

This is an interesting little essay. It seems to be poking fun at the gun-control crowd -- not taking them or their efforts seriously. From what I see around us, though, the folks it is addressed to are engaged in exactly what the author proposes, but the methods are a bit different. The gun-control crowd uses the same playbook as the Progressive element -- they understand fully that dramatic change cannot be suddenly forced but can come about by LONG, sustained efforts. These folks are idealists but they fully understand that the only path to their goal is incremental in nature and are systematically working their plan. Today they will ask for more than they can expect to get. Tomorrow they'll receive some concession based on their request and again ask for more. The next day the cycle repeats... Over time, rights are eroded to the point of being as thin as the paper they were once printed on.

Not too worried about it myself. I fully expect the system to collapse before any significant gun bans or confiscation can occur. Once that happens "gun control" will be off the table for decades.

I'm not worried either - incrementalism or not. There comes a point at which I just say no to new regulations and laws. If I become a criminal because of that, so be it. Of course, the reality that America may have an additional 20 or 30 million newly-minted felons roaming the streets overnight may not help their pipe dream of utopia.

And here I use the word "pipe" with all its current ramifications. :evil2:

Every Democrat with a brain (excuse this assumption of facts not in evidence) knows that every time they get to thumping the tub about gun control, there are fewer of them holding office after the next election.
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Good article. Some thoughts I had heard of before, but a couple of new ways of thinking in there for me...
