Another Intruder Shot and Killed by Homeowner

#1

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

I just saw part of a report on Houston's Ch. 11 TV news that an intruder trying to break in a home by using a baseball bat was shot and killed by the homeowner. This is becoming a routine occurrence!

I find the number of these occurances reecently very interesting. Not sure if it is related to the recent storms or just a rash of stupid people. One thing for certain, either the people prone to this type of behaviour will learn this is not productive or they will eventually stop due to attrition.

I wouldn't count on attrition, over production here as along with uncontrolled import's have flooded the market ( prisons ) and looks like they will continue to do so for some time.

I saw the report of this incident on the NBC affiliate this morning...

They made a point of the cleaning service already at the home doing their thing...

Must have been a real mess...

There has been quite a few of these things happening here lately. I would think that it has to do with the Holidays, there are always more home break-ins during the Holiday season.

"Bat-wielding burglary suspect shot dead

Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

A west Houston man fatally shot an apparent burglar who broke into his home late Monday while carrying a baseball bat, police said.

A man climbed over a fence at about 9 p.m.and battered his way through the front door of the townhouse in the 5400 block of Lacy, Houston police officers said.

The homeowner and other residents told the man to leave while backing away from him. Officers said the man was shot when he continued moving toward them while brandishing the bat.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives were still questioning the homeowner overnight."

Never take a bat to a gunfight 8)

What was the b.g. thinking? (One could argue, obviously there was little or no thinking involved on his part ).

What part of "leave I have a gun" did he not understand? :?:

Kinda makes you want to carry a gun - and take the PPH course....

committment and follow through

My guess is that the bad guy did not realize that there were people in the house or that he thought it was only servants. (bad intell) Having busted in the door and being confronted by unexpected resistance(the law of unintended consequences?), he did not have a back-up plan(failure to plan for all contingencies). Then, realizing that he was in a fix, he failed to make the right decision about retreat. (committment to project in spite of reverses) Overall bad planning, bad decision making, and a bad result.
Hmmmm, a microcosm of business planning..........

Obviously, he wasn't.

It certainly seems as if this is becoming a daily ritual.

"Intruder fatally shot by gun-wielding homeowner
(11/22/05 - KTRK/HOUSTON) - A homeowner shot and killed an intruder who broke into a home near Memorial Park.

The suspect jumped a fence and broke through the side door of a town home on Lacy at Dettering just north of Memorial Drive. He had a baseball bat.

A man was home with his wife and child. He warned the intruder that he had a gun. That didn't stop him.

HPD's Mike Walker said, "(As he) began to make his way through the residence the homeowner secured his wife and child. As he tried to go upstairs he shot him."

The intruder died at the scene. Police say classify the case as a justifiable homicide.

Police are also checking out reports that the suspect may have had an accomplice. Witnesses heard a car speed off after the homeowner fired shots.
