CZ 75

Since I have a CZ tutor, what's the story on the CZ 85? It looks much like the 75 in terms of size and weight. It looks like the differences are ambi safety and slide stop, a reversible mag release, and a firing pin block. Is that it? How are they viewed in the CZ community?

Andy probably knows more about this than I do, so hopefully he will chime in.

I have heard lots of internet stories (you know how those go) about the ambi slide stop breaking and even the frame on the 85 cracking at the right hand slide stop. Don't have an 85 or know anyone who does, so no actual experience with the issue, and supposedly CZ redesigned some things to make it better on newer models.

As for the firing pin block, any of the 75b guns also have the firing pin block, with the exception of the Shadow models. That's actually what the B part of CZ 75b stands for.

Apparently I could eliminate what little pretravel my SA trigger has right now by removing the FPB, but it's already a pretty good trigger and while I've heard testing on the non FPB equiped CZs have shown them to be drop safe even without it, it's one of those things I'm not bothered enough by to change (and IIRC removing a "safety device" on a competition gun could also get me DQed in some competitions, so that's a factor for me as well).

Love CZs.....currently have a couple CZ Custom Compact P-01 SDPs and a P-01 ODG. Haven't shot the ODG but the SDPs have been flawless.

Those are beautiful guns QB. Do the Trijicon rear sights require any milling of the slide?

Yes, they are Heinie Slant Pro (Straight Eights) and do require milling. I'd like to get some put on my ODG gun but will probably just leave it stock for now although I did polish the barrel hood and lug.

saw academy has a P-07 in their ad for a decent price, tempted for sure as it would be much easier to carry a polymer one than the steel frame.
I like that it can be easily converted from decocker to a cock n lock safety

I just found this thread. I have a 75D Compact, Decocker. Cast aluminum frame and steel slide. Feels better in my hand than a 75B, will shoot all day, and is more easily concealed. Find one and shoot it. You will like it better than the 75B.

I've often felt I should have bought the CZ75C Stainless over my M&P9C. The CZ just fits my hand so well. Oh well.

Thankfully, guns are commodities which can be bought.....but also traded and sold.

I recently purchased a CZ 75 P-07 duty and have put about 400 rounds through it so far. not one single hiccup with different types of ammo. I picked it up for 360 and it came with 2 16 round magazines. I have to admit I like it a lot more than my G19. its compact enough to where its easily concealed. aftermarket parts aren't as readily available though. it gives you the decocker standard but also comes with the safety lever that can easily be switched out. great guns!

Funny that you mention the G19. I've been carrying one for several years. It replaced a full size 1911 and has been a great gun. Still think a G19 is hard to beat.

That being said, as of a few weeks ago the P-01 has completely replaced the G19 as my EDC. It's on my hip as I write this, and it's been every bit as easy to carry as the 19 was.

Just found this thread, different time zone I guess. I have had several great experiences with a small shop in Mesa, AZ and their resident Smith.
The shop is Ghost Products / CZ Custom Guns and their Smith, Eric Zinn.
