Twenty years after Columbine, a leading gun control activist offers a radical argument for the gun control movement our country desperately needs
Ninety-six people die from guns in America every single day. Twelve thousand Americans are murdered each year. The United States has more mass shootings, gun suicides, and nonfatal gun injuries than any other industrialized country in the world. Gun-safety advocates have tried to solve these problems with incremental changes such as background checks and banning assault style military weapons. They have fallen short. In order to significantly and permanently reduce gun deaths the United States needs a bold new approach: a drastic reduction of the 390 million guns already in circulation and a new movement dedicated to a future with fewer guns.
In Guns Down, Igor Volsky tells the story of how he took on the NRA just by using his Twitter account, describes how he found common ground with gun enthusiasts after spending two days shooting guns in the desert, and lays out a blueprint for how citizens can push their governments to reduce the number of guns in circulation and make firearms significantly harder to get. An aggressive licensing and registration initiative, federal and state buybacks of millions of guns, and tighter regulation of the gun industry, the gun lobby, and gun sellers will build safer communities for all. Volsky outlines a New Second Amendment Compact developed with policy experts from across the political spectrum, including bold reforms that have succeeded in reducing gun violence worldwide, and offers a road map for achieving transformative change to increase safety in our communities[/quite]

Pile of brass (mine), cold dead hands (theirs), that’s how I see this working out if they try this crap.

I've got one word: Volsky.

Igor Volsky is just another progressive socialist degenerate.

The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

Re: Knowing What the Other Side Plans
A perfect example of why registration and licensing should be opposed. They are a gateway to further gun control. It's pretty much what the pro-gun argument has been for decades and they're called crazy for saying so.

Gay folks shoot too. Every test that you add before granting someone permission to support the 2A removes a group of supporters. If the goal is to construct a tiny fraction of ideologically pure holdouts, then the strategy of only taking a tiny number of folks who hold the exact same views works fine. If the goal is to preserve the 2A in a democracy, then that strategy is suicidal.

I forgot to add.... whenever I read that someone "took on the NRA", I automatically discount whatever he says; because 100% of the time, he or she is setting up the NRA as a straw man. It’s nothing but chest thumping. "Hey everybody, look at me. I took on the big bad boogyman and proved him evil and wrong.KLB wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:02 am Here's a link to a book I have not read but probably should:

Re: Knowing What the Other Side Plans
Agreed, but who said otherwise? Whether or not I personally believe that certain non traditional lifestyles are a healthy choice, does not mean that the people who practice them do not have the same 2nd Amandment rights I have. Unfortunately, the majority of people belonging to those classes who are either not white, or not heterosexual.....or even not male....tend to vote with the party that wants to terminate those 2nd Amendment rights. In the pursuit of their other rights, and in some cases, their grievances, they’ve hewn themselves to the party that will give them whatever they want....in exchange for their liberty.MaduroBU wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 2:35 pm Gay folks shoot too. Re: Knowing What the Other Side Plans
If the only support we had were the straight middle aged rural males, we would be in big trouble. There are growing groups of shooters from some of these non-traditional demographics. Gays, Democrats, Women, Jews, blacks, etc. It is among these groups that we have the potential for the biggest growth of support. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Sat May 04, 2019 12:47 pmAgreed, but who said otherwise?
