Brit arrested for defending himself

A 78-year-old homeowner has been arrested by murder detectives after a suspected burglar he fought with in his own kitchen died of a stab wound.
The pensioner was upstairs asleep with his wife when he was woken by the two men breaking into his suburban home in Hither Green, south-east London last night.
He was forced into his kitchen by one of the men, who was armed with a screwdriver, before a struggle ensued.
The intruder, a 38-year-old man, was left with wounds to his chest and local residents say he collapsed in a neighbouring road and died in hospital.

When are the folks there going to have enough with good folk being treated as criminals for daring to defend themselves? Something has to give eventually. Self defense is a human right.

How dare he defend himself? What does he think he is, a citizen? He is but a mere subject. And subjects should look only to the ruling class for their defense. We can't have people thinking they are capable of their own defense, else they would realize that their rulers are nothing but petty tyrants. Then we would have a repeat of that nasty business with the American colonies. This peasant needs to be made an example of!

It's bad enough that the cops make the arrest and the authorities prosecute. But it's my understanding the prosecutors get convictions, which means juries composed of other Brits vote to convict. Can you imagine a Texas jury doing that under similar circumstances? It seems true that we get the government we deserve.
