Portland Oregon conservative blogger was found guilty of threatening BLM protestors with his gun after they threatened him.

Jury members didn't like guns so he elected to have judge decide, who also found him guilty.

He faces 50 years in prison.

He was so in fear of his life he moments later gave a tv interview in the same spot.

Apparently at a anti gun rally a year earlier he was attacked and his arm was broken in three places.

Not sure if martyr or bum.

When in Portland act like a Portlandia.

Saw the video of this incident a while back and remember thinking that things were not going to end well for this guy.

Presidents don't have power to pardon State offenses. The Leftist governor of Oregon will not pardon him... :rules:

There are three clear lessons to learn from this incident, although some may only apply in Oregon et cetera.
  1. SHOOT
If you draw against a crowd, shoot a couple of them. The fact that he didn't shoot was used as "proof" he wasn't in fear of his life.
  2. SCOOT
If you draw or shoot, run away afterward. The fact that he remained in the area after the threat backed off was used as "proof" he wasn't in fear of his life.
  3. MUTE
Don't talk to the authorities. If they have questions, ask for a lawyer and then wait for your lawyer. Only talk to your lawyer and let your lawyer talk to the authorities. You have the right to remain silent and anything you say can be twisted and used against you.

Should have asked for a change of venue. To Idaho.

I think he may have faced murder/manslaughter charges had he shot.

There are at least 3 people in between him and the black guy who looks to be starting a fight trying to keep the fight from starting. There is also a black guy behind the fighting black guy trying to pull the trying to fight guy back.

If you watch the video from this angle--it appears the crowd was well aware of who Mr. Strickland was.

A post last week asked what would happen if you shot someone. Well, here is what can happen when you don't.

Oregon is a 'Stand Your Ground' Castle Doctrine state. I will bet he tries to use that as justification on drawing. However, if you go to a protest and try to video and the protest is moving toward you, you really don't have justification to stand your ground. He needed to move back and away from them. I think this guy will end up pleading down to some lesser charge and end up losing his concealed license.

It looks like he overreacted a bit unless I missed something in the videos.

Sad fact if he had shot one of them he might have gotten less time in jail.

A couple things to take into account here:

1. He actually may have feared for his life. He might have actually thought he was in danger. Which by the aggressive nature of the protestors he could have been but, he was not in enough to justify drawing down on them from the short video I saw.

2. Yes He might have been in less trouble if he had shot but the bad thing was he continued to try and film them and then proceeded to have an interview with someone else afterwords.

While the state has the stand your ground law personally I think that he should have just left or if he felt scared for his life just ran away. I am going to do all I can to NOT draw my gun unless I have to. Regardless of what happens that gives us a bad image
