ZERO CHL Permits in Hawaii

#1

Post by thatguyoverthere »

Wow, I knew it was bad, but not that bad!

http://freebeacon.com/issues/hawaii-sta ... rmit-2016/
The state of Hawaii did not issue any gun-carry permits to private citizens in 2016...

...every application by a private citizen for a concealed-carry permit was denied in 2016. That makes Hawaii the only state in the country not to issue even a single concealed-carry permit last year.

Since the Hawaii concealed-carry permit is only valid for one year, Hawaii was also the only state in the country not to have any active concealed-carry permits issued to private citizens.

My brother-in-law is moving from Michigan to Hawaii this July. When I told him about Hawaii's restrictions last year I offered to buy most of his guns. When I called him this week to see if he was ready to sell,he told me everything was cool, all he had to do was register them when he got there.

Shake my head.

Police officers from other States are not allowed to have a gun with them.

Not sure about federal law inforcement.

How is this not a direct violation to the second amendment? Maybe things will change for the better in the next several years..

No more or less than any other state that requires a license to carry.

Even Steve McGarrett couldn't get a CHL in Hawaii.

And ya gotta love Hollyweird, because if you watch Hawaii Five-O you'd think the islands had more guns per capita than any state in the union.

No permits issued doesn't mean no guns!

Hawaii has always been pretty weird. You get special discounts on everything if you have a HI zip code on your ID.

I recall an anecdote about when Hawaii Five-O first started shooting. They wanted to pay to use HPD police cars in the filming, but there was no such thing. All HPD cars were privately purchased by their officers. The production company had to buy cars and paint them up.

Also, much of the property is owned by the pineapple companies. While you can own your house, you cannot own the land on which it sits. This was several years ago, don't know if things have changed since.

I was on Kauai a few weeks ago, found a gun store and spent some time talking with the folks there. They had the most 22 LR I have seen in a very long time and we'll stocked with other calibers. Prices on pistols and rifles very close to what I see here locally.
I was told the local cops don't carry off duty or very rarely and visiting LEO aren't allowed to carry. I only saw a few marked police cars with "Kauai Police" and a few "Navy Police" around.
The police presence was very low key, the day we arrived there were 4 officers at the rental car office arresting someone for warrants, got off shuttle to them walking out with the guy in cuffs. The day we left was the day after the inaugural and there was that protest of Trump going on near the airport, we drove by after it ended and people were leaving, Police was heavy there, but clearing when we got there. saw one local car with a Trump Pence sticker :-)

Well maybe not according to state law, but LEOSA says differently and overrules that.

It is a direct violation and IMHO there is clear precedent to overturn this draconian restriction. We just need to get the SCOTUS correct and then the right plaintiff needs to file a case. 5-10 short years later, the state will make some minor changes that have minimal real impact. Another case will be filed, a few more years, and the state will get slapped down again. Eventually the residents of Hawaii will have as many rights as the folks who live in Chicago or NYC.

"rlol"

BTW, I just had to back and check. Lest we think Hawaii's issuance of zero concealed carry licenses in 2016 is an aberration:

Applications by Private Citizens for a Concealed Carry License in the State of Hawaii
  • 2015: 44 applications; 0 granted
  • 2014: 14 applications; 0 granted
  • 2013: 7 applications; 0 granted
  • 2012: 8 applications; 0 granted
  • 2011: 9 applications; 0 granted
  • 2010: 4 applications; 0 granted
  • 2009: 2 applications; 0 granted
  • 2008: 2 applications; 0 granted
  • 2007: 1 applications; 0 granted
  • 2006: 1 applications; 0 granted
  • 2005: 2 applications; 0 granted
  • 2004: 1 applications; 0 granted
  • 2003: 3 applications; 0 granted
  • 2002: 2 applications; 0 granted
  • 2001: 1 applications; 0 granted
  • 2000: 11 applications; 0 granted

Yep. You read that correctly. There have been no private citizen concealed handgun licenses granted in Hawaii this century.

The number of current Texas CHL/LTC license holders equals approximately 86% of the entire population of the state of Hawaii; all children, women, and men.

And a trivia tidbit: if someone were to somehow get a license to carry in the won't-issue state of Hawaii, that license is issued by the county of residence and is valid only in that county. There is no reciprocity among counties.

God Bless Texas. :txflag:
