Germany sees record requests for gun permits

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Germany sees record requests for gun permits

This sounds good, but when you read the details, it's not really a gun permit:
Requests in Germany for self-defense weapons permits are hitting record highs in 2016, police data reveals. Firearms ownership experts say people wanting to purchase non-lethal weapons come from all sections of society, “be it workers or professors.”

The new police data shows that Germans are feeling increasingly unsafe in the wake of recent lone-wolf attacks and shootings, which has sparked a demand for non-lethal self-defense weapons.

“As of June 2016, there were 402,301 small arms carry permits in the National Weapons Register,” the Interior Ministry said, as cited by Die Welt.

This figure is almost 50 percent higher than last year when there were just fewer than 270,000 requests for permits in the first half of 2015.

Small arms carry permits or “Kleiner Waffenschein” in German, are restricted to non-lethal self-defense weapons, such as blank-firing and gas pistols, and flare guns.
But still, it's citizens deciding to protect themselves. It's a step in the right direction.
Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

...No matter Germany's experience with various M.E. dirtbags, BO still wants to bring in potential terrorists/criminals.

The "Gas Pistole" or also called "Schreckschuss Waffe" was legal to purchase for anybody at the age of 18 or older in Germany before they changed the law several years ago.
It is not useful for protection at all because you may expose yourself to the "gas" in a close encounter.
To obtain a "Kleinen Waffenschein" over there is by far more difficult than getting a CHL in the U.S.

This guy goes through Germany's weapon laws and I was fairly surprised at their laws and his awesome collection. A lot of their laws are similar to California but oddly they can own a lot of things most in California cannot. An actual concealed firearms permit is in the law but similarly to California it's almost impossible to get.

According to this guy it's just a criminal records check and payment for the permit. It's ridiculous for a fake firearm but their laws aren't really as bad as we think.

Obtaining the criminal record can be difficult if one lived in different cities because you have go to each cities administration and get the record for the time you lived there. They also consider certain traffic violations as a crime.
In other terme, it is not so easy because of the difficulties implied. they usually ask for 10 years but in case ther was an issue before those 10 years they'll deny the application without explanation.
