Per the article:
The man who police said randomly killed six people and wounded two others in Kalamazoo, Mich., was an Uber driver and may have been picking up fares as he continued on his shooting rampage.
Jason Dalton, 45, was arrested Sunday after the wave of attacks Saturday evening. Uber released a statement confirming Dalton was a driver and said he had passed a background check, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Gosh, this is disturbing...I figured that their
policy was worded strongly enough that it would deter anyone from bringing a gun into an Uber car. But I guess those intent on causing harm are willing to disobey "gun free zone" rules?
Wait a minute...hasn't something similar to this been discussed on here sometime in the past? Aren't "gun free zones" actually supposed to work?

Gun free zones work perfectly, exactly as they are intended. For the shooter.

I used to drive for them here and there for extra money. I stopped driving for that exact reason - I'm not willingly subjecting myself to a "gun free zone," especially in MY OWN CAR.

I thought I read a story that said the suspect has no criminal history... Guess we also need more gun laws too

But -- did you read that he bought a "tactical" shirt from a GUN SHOP on the day he allegedly committed the murders!

I hereby declare that we should immediately work to ban "tactical shirts" as these are a threat to public safety.

Isn't passing a background check one of the tenets that ltc holders fall back on when trying to justify why 30.06 signs should be removed? Unstable people will be unstable people, regardless whether they can pass a background check.

No law will prevent all of the wackos from committing crimes and atrocities.

, but going by the stats DPS publishes every year, the Texas CHL vetting process works pretty darned good.

Also, what kind of background check are they doing? A public records check or a thorough check like DPS and other gov't agencies do?

Yes it does, but there will always be statistical anomalies.
