It would make sense to me that you are protected by the parking lot bill, but I am no lawyer. Curious to see what the more knowledgeable say.

Unfortunately ISDs are exempt from the parking lot bill.

:iagree:

I think you are good, but I'd confirm with legal brains just to be sure.

Can you park on the street?

It's not against the law for you to have it your your vehicle, but if discovered you could be fired. Some teachers have said they park off the school property to avoid this issue.

I think that the ban on ISD employees on ISD parking lots must be in HR policy or written notice to all employees of ISD. At most it is a can cost your job because you have no protection under the parking lot bill.
To ban ISD employee handguns in private cars on ISD parking lots must be a conscious decision made by the ISD board, it does not apply till then. I am not an attorney and this is not legal advice.
just sayin

Do they search vehicles? How would they know otherwise?

Only gov't place I've seen vehicle searches are military bases and some federal installations.

I don't advocate breaking the rules if an ISD can restrict weapons in vehicles. Part of me thinks that they cannot prohibit it, but IANAL.

My current boss has no problem i carry and has a chl as well (does not carry though) but if I ever get employed anywhere else, I would not tell any one my co workers that I carried for this reason.

I'm no lawyer either, but If you have a CHL I see no reason, why you shouldn't, be able to keep it in your car. The CHL protects you against the criminal charges, and the parking lot bill protects you against employer actions.
I suggest discretion.

The high school I went to regularly had the district police with k9s walking the parking lot. If the dog made a hit on a vehicle, they would have the student or teacher open it so they could search.

Unfortunately ISDs are exempt from the parking lot bill.
Would you mind citing the statute for that?

UPDATE: now that I've looked at it, I believe you are correct.
Sec. 52.062. EXCEPTIONS. (a) Section 52.061 does not:
(1) authorize a person who holds a license to carry a concealed handgun under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, who otherwise lawfully possesses a firearm, or who lawfully possesses ammunition to possess a firearm or ammunition on any property where the possession of a firearm or ammunition is prohibited by state or federal law; or
(2) apply to:
(A) a vehicle owned or leased by a public or private employer and used by an employee in the course and scope of the employee's employment, unless the employee is required to transport or store a firearm in the official discharge of the employee's duties;
(B) a school district;
Looks like school districts were exempted from the parking lot bill.

I don't remember ISDs being exempt from the parking lot bill. If so this is certainly a bummer

They were, for employees.
