It would make sense to me that you are protected by the parking lot bill, but I am no lawyer. Curious to see what the more knowledgeable say.

Unfortunately ISDs are exempt from the parking lot bill.The Annoyed Man wrote:It would make sense to me that you are protected by the parking lot bill, but I am no lawyer. Curious to see what the more knowledgeable say.

I'm no lawyer either, but If you have a CHL I see no reason, why you shouldn't, be able to keep it in your car. The CHL protects you against the criminal charges, and the parking lot bill protects you against employer actions.The Annoyed Man wrote:It would make sense to me that you are protected by the parking lot bill, but I am no lawyer. The high school I went to regularly had the district police with k9s walking the parking lot. If the dog made a hit on a vehicle, they would have the student or teacher open it so they could search.jrs_diesel wrote:Do they search vehicles? How would they know otherwise?
Only gov't place I've seen vehicle searches are military bases and some federal installations.
I don't advocate breaking the rules if an ISD can restrict weapons in vehicles. Part of me thinks that they cannot prohibit it, but IANAL.
Would you mind citing the statute for that?jmra wrote:Unfortunately ISDs are exempt from the parking lot bill.The Annoyed Man wrote:It would make sense to me that you are protected by the parking lot bill, but I am no lawyer. Curious to see what the more knowledgeable say.
Looks like school districts were exempted from the parking lot bill.Sec. 52.062. EXCEPTIONS. (a) Section 52.061 does not:
(1) authorize a person who holds a license to carry a concealed handgun under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, who otherwise lawfully possesses a firearm, or who lawfully possesses ammunition to possess a firearm or ammunition on any property where the possession of a firearm or ammunition is prohibited by state or federal law; or
(2) apply to:
(A) a vehicle owned or leased by a public or private employer and used by an employee in the course and scope of the employee's employment, unless the employee is required to transport or store a firearm in the official discharge of the employee's duties;
(B) a school district;
They were, for employees.Liberty wrote:I don't remember ISDs being exempt from the parking lot bill. If so this is certainly a bummer
