AG requests for opinions related to firearms

Below is a list of requests for opinions related to firearms pending at the AG office. Yesterday the AG office released two opinions, RQ-0030-KP and RQ-0028-KP (unrelated to firearms). In the past twelve months, the AG office has issued 46 opinions, roughly four per month. There are eight more RQ's between the ones issued yesterday and the first RQ relating to firearms. Assuming that opinions are issued sequentially and at a rate of four per month, it might be two months before we hear from Ken Paxton about firearms. Again, the time line is an assumption. I hope I am wrong.

These RQ's are not complaints about illegal 30.06 signs. Those complaints are not listed on the web site. In a phone call with the AG office, I learned that these RQ's will be used as the basis for ruling on 30.06 complaints. I do not expect action on an illegal 30.06 sign before the firearm related RQ's are issued. I filed a complaint with the AG against the city of Pasadena on October 5. I have not heard anything about that complaint.

You can use this contact form on the AG web site to express your opinion. This is not the link to report illegal 30.06 signs.

I have read on here that they will not give any opinions on SB273 until 2016.
The delay on these is disheartening, to say the least. It's sad that organizations/cities can break the law and take months and months for them to be prosecuted.

They've been breaking them for years, so I guess a few more months is not a huge deal. Remember, the laws about concealed carry on the properties of government entities have been on the books a long long time, and the entities are just now getting around to paying attention to them.

To add some more perspective, RQ-0028-KP was received by the AG office on June 15, 2015. The opinion was issued on December 14, 2015, almost six months to the day.

The first firearm related RQ, RQ-0040-KP, was received by the AG on July 14, 2015. Six months would be January 14, 2016. Let us hope that this is a better estimate of when the AG will act.

Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday to me! Happy birthday dear TA-AM! Happy birthday to me!

....in no small part because, ironically, I moved here from Pasadena California, and 10/5 (in case you hadn't figured it out) is my birthday. :biggrinjester:
