to register my opinion that the Office of Attorney General should enforce SB 273. This is not the link for entering 30.06 complaints. This is a general contact form at the AG office.

My opinion got routed to the folks responsible for managing 30.06 complaints. I got a reply. AG opinions regarding illegal 30.06 signs will not be rendered before January.

3-4 months seems like a lot of time to start making these calls, especially since most of them are pretty cut and dry.
At least now we know to be on the lookout at the beginning of the new year.

Really, really wanted to OC at the Houston Zoo on January 1st. Looks like I may have to wait until February.

While I'm glad to hear that something will begin to move on Jan. 1st with the complaints filed, it's disappointing to know that there is a delay. I don't understand why there would be a delay like that, given that the signage law is already current code. Is this "normal" for TX in that they often don't begin enforcement of a portion of the code even though it is in effect? If so, why didn't the legislature simply have the 30.06 signage laws go in effect at the same time as OC? Wasn't the law passed because it is in fact already a violation of law for them to post the signs, and this was just to give it some teeth?

Again, am disappointed though because that means that there are right now folks unable to do what they are lawfully entitled to do because of the zoos, museums, et. al. not complying with the law as they haven't for years, and I don't understand why they are being allowed for even a day to continue violating the law. Not to mention that they are not only continuing to get away with it, but what does that mean about any fines - specifically, will they then not pursue any fines for days prior to Jan. 1st? If so, then clearly there is NO incentive for any governmental body to do anything other than what they have been doing - which is ignoring the law. Just seems to send the wrong message.

I bet it's due to workload and priority. We have to keep in mind, while CC and OC may be our number 1 priority, it isn't necessarily everyone's.

I'll give you that.

Understanding that, it would have been appropriate to then indicate that no complaints will be resolved until X date. I think that would have been fair given the things that have come from the Governor about signage, and the AG taking the trouble to setup a reporting site (and there seem to be very few things that are treated that way). Communication about what is a priority, and how this will be treated would go a long way to help the CHL community to understand what is being done to protect our rights and such.

No rulings will happen today, however. State District Judge George Gallagher said he will take all matters under advisement and issue written rulings in the future.
