You will want to see this article about, and the embedded interviews with, Dr. Gracia-Hupp, whose name will be familiar to many here.

Can't help but wonder what would have been if CC had been in place at the time.

Whether the firearm homicide rate was reduced in Australia is still open to debate from what I've read, though gun suicides went down. The reports on extreme of reduction in firearm murders percentage wise is deceiving since it could be counted on two hands. 10 becomes 6 and wow a 40% reduction. We have some much more impressive stats given our population and the number of firearms in the US. Violent crime, sexual assault, robbery and assaults, increased dramatically in Australia after the confiscation of all their handguns, pump action and semi-auto long arms.

There's a good argument to be made based on Mrs Hupp's comment about who is most at risk. Hillary or the average citizens Haven't heard of too many politicians being mowed down recently.

Less lives would have been taken. The coward who did that, like most others who commit mass shooting, took his own life when he met armed resistance. That would of happened sooner had an armed citizen been in the Lubys and engaged him.

If that truck comes crashing through the wall/door, the guy gets out and shows a firearm, and every armed citizen doesn't draw and fire at him, those that did not ought to turn in their permits and sell their firearms, if they live.

If there has ever been an example of why one carries in public, this is it. There are hundreds and thousands of residential break ins in which the occupant(s) defended themselves with firearms and were saved, and as many where they did not with horrific consequences.

This is a public one.

Australian homicides are down from 351 victims in 1990 to 266 victims in 2006-7. What's interesting is the use of firearms in homicides has decreased from 29 to 11, but the use of knives has dramatically increased from 33 to 45. http://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide/weapon.html.

The murder rate has decreased some, but it doesn't look like that can be attributed to the gun buyback program.

Meanwhile, violent crime has increased from 145,902 victims in 1996 to 215,208 in 2007. Every category except homicide is up; assault, sexual assault, robbery and kidnapping.

In the mean time, America's murder rate is down, and our gun ownership has never been higher. Gun control is bull.
