I agree common sense dictates that for someone to be able to defend themselves at all times that they must be armed at all times. No one has a crystal ball and can predict the time or place when a self defense situation may present it self or be thrust upon you.

I am also aware that current laws are many times in conflict with common sense. As such we have "off limit" areas and private property owners have their rights. Thus, the creation of "gun free zones".

Now as a CHL/Good Guy exercising your 2A rights, it's up to you whether or not you follow common sense or the law. It's up to you to determine the risk/reward of carrying/not carrying in a off limits or posted area.

I am not encouraging anyone to break the law nor would I condemn anyone taking necessary steps to protect themselves. The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun. The common sense vs law issues of self protection and what we do are decisions as CHL/Gun Owners we must make everyday.

What concerns me is that in the past couple of days I have been made aware, through various social media, of a "movement", if you want to call it that, by CHL/CCW permit holders across the country to post pictures of themselves, on social media, conceal carrying in "off limit" or other legally prohibited areas.

I won't post any links because I don't want to promote any of it.

The goal as I understand it is to show that we CHLers pose no threat and that guns are present in the gun free areas and that nothing bad happened, in effort to show how ridiculous gun free zones are. While I agree with the message, I don't agree with the method.

Posting on social media that you are breaking the law is never a good idea and I don't think it will have the desired affect.

The decision on how you go about your business and what you are going to do when faced with the decision to be armed or when to disarm is a personal one we all must make but if you are going to break the law don't go around posting it on social media bringing attention to it. I don't think any good can come of it.

Almost sounds like a bait tactic to get people to do stupid things. Hopefully everyone who has gone through the CHL process is not that stupid.

Posting on so-called "social media" isn't a good idea at all, of anything, unless you are Beavis or Butthead.

I interpret the OP as providing information about some unidentified group of licensees in some unidentified state starting a very ill-advised scheme to violate their state law. I can think of a few people in Texas that would be so irresponsible as to encourage people to do this, but I cannot imagine that CHLs would follow such poor advice. Oh yes, the "movement" probably constitutes organized crime in some states.

Don't post anything encouraging people to join this movement because that would constitute advocating illegal activity in violation of Forum Rule 4. So be careful that nothing you post could be interpreted as such. We won't be splitting hairs on this issue for obvious reasons.

As stated before, I don't want to promote it. It can only hurt our cause, both doing it and posting about. I just wanted to bring awareness to it and encourage others not to do it. Not sure what hairs there are to split about it.

That's almost on the same level of dumb as criminals who post photos of their latest robbery haul on their Facebook page.

Has anyone considered making posting on social media a misdemeanor?

Personally, I won't carry in a place where it is a felony or a place where I could potentially lose my license. I also don't agree with the movement to show people carrying in places where it is against the law. Instead, why not post pictures of people carrying in places where it is lawful? If the whole point is to show people that normal people carry, that should suffice.

I don't even want people to know that I have a CHL. That's why I don't use it as ID. I know many think they should be not me.

I don't know if this movement is happening in Texas, but if it is, then I'm guessing it is OCT types who are doing it.

There are always going to be those that push. I prefer to be as invisible as possible. I don't even have a Facebook account, I must be well behind the times cause most people I know think I am nuts not to have a Facebook account. Planters anyone?
