Mexico has been one of the leading campaigners for the ATT. It wants to use the treaty to promote gun control in the U.S.
Mexico’s theory is that, since any gun in the U.S. might at some point conceivably cross the U.S. border, all U.S. guns have to be controlled in the name of controlling the international arms trade. That’s not going to happen at this meeting (or ever, if the U.S. retains its sanity).
It’s even less good that Mexico’s spent much of the past year colluding with the activists to keep skeptics (like myself) out of the room. Their view was that only true believers who campaigned for the treaty should be allowed to see what’s going on.
You might wonder what they’re afraid of. We skeptics make no secret of our views, but we’re a well-mannered bunch: no spitballs. However, if we were always in the room, we’d report on exactly how closely the activists are working with Mexico and other likeminded nations.
The activists—led by the global Control Arms Coalition, which has a massive presence at Cancún—are the only insiders in the treaty process, and they want to keep it that way.

Mexico is gonna have to get in line with all the other crazy antis that think criminals will follow the gun control laws. All the drug laws here in the US and in Mexico don't stop the flow of drugs so what makes them think laws will do anything to stop firearms traffickers? Dummies...

The Mexicans must not understand U.S. politics, or rather more likely, are being used as front men by the lib progs in the U.S. to pimp this deal.
A Treaty must be confirmed by 2/3rds of the Senate. The Senate isn't going to confirm a treaty like that. I'm not sure the 2d Amendment doesn't override even a Treaty. At least it is not overridden by a Treaty.

When they get their drugs and guns under control maybe we'll think about it. Not!

Almost forgot. They can add their people crossing the border illegally to the list.

They probably understand it better than at least me. The Iran Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty appears to be passed with the Democrats just by blocking the vote? I sure don't understand how this works out. I thought I used to when I was in class concerning the ways things worked in our Government. I guess when the Republicans just don't even try to defeat the Great One's agenda, then it is the same as acquiescing. So, I don't believe that anything cannot pass or at least be let to stand as is? Sure disappointed and now surely not trusting in my Government. Just me being pessimistic I guess.

The Iran deal is not denominated a treaty, or it would have to be confirmed by 2/3rds of the Senate, generally considered, and apparently conceded, to be impossible. They needed to get Congressional authority to lift sanctions so they cobbled up this goofy arrangement, both novel and imaginative.
