No way that bill will pass--will never get past the republican-controlled House. And no, I do not think it is a good bill that ought to pass for those who will read my comments then say "You think this bill SHOULD pass?" then begin the flame wars...

Incredible! Frivolous bills introduced that will go nowhere. Someone should introduce a bill to prohibit the introduction of frivolous bills! :grumble

From the article: "Yet although background checks are federally mandated and federally conducted at all retail gun outlets in the U.S., Kaine wants to hold the gun seller responsible for what a buyer does when he or she exits the store with a gun the FBI cleared them to purchase."

What immediately comes to mind is an auto dealer sells a car to someone, and the driver of that car later on is involved in an accident which results in the death of another person.

Will Sen. Kaine introduce a similar bill relating to the sale of a car?

That tears it!

I'm NEVER going to sell any of my firearms. And if I buy anymore, I'll keep them too.

Are there not more pressing issues to deal with right now?

Two thoughts.....

First, there are thousands of bills introduced each Congress. Only a small fraction are ever voted out of committee. Bills are introduced to satisfy supporters, give the incumbent something to list as having done in his/her reelection campaign, and get/give the winks from lobbiests.

Second, every time the Socialists start thumping the tub about this stuff, there are fewer of them after the next election. What's so bad about that?

The stupidity of some never cease to amaze me. Given some of the idiot higher ups in the GOP at this time, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if this were to somehow become law. However, I seriously doubt it would ever hold up in court. This sounds eerily similar to those that would like to see a business that posts 30.06 signs be held responsible for a CHL that were injured during a robbery because they were left defenseless. Although, we used to say that was never going to happen, a McDonalds had a ruling go against them for something very similar. It did not involve a CHLee and I don't know if this is final yet.

Thanks for the link C-Dub. I do not see this verdict, assuming it becomes a judgment, holding up at the Supreme Court of Texas which is very hostile to these types of tort cases.

Next logical step, hold the former owner of an automobile liable when a drunk kills someone.

Where do the"leaders", I use that term very loosely, come up with this crap?

The young man that was killed was a close friend of one of my nephews in high school. It shook him up quite a bit.

That's the problem. Where does it end? People that sell cars, knives, baseball bats, hockey sticks, rope, plastic bags, ...

I doubt that McDonalds ruling will hold up, but we've seen stranger things from the high courts in recent years.

Seller responsible for buyers actions... Wow, talk about a universally devastating slippery slope! :nono: What's so wrong with people being responsible for their own actions? Seems to have worked fairly well for the past 1000 years or so, where it's been applied.
