The rabid intensity of too many of these folks seems utterly hysterical (and a bit frightening) -- hysterical not in the funny way, but in the uncontrollably emotional, devoid of reason way. A LOT of folks out there seem to believe everything they hear from whatever "news sources" they subscribe to without weighing that "news" against the real world around them -- assuming the education system hasn't failed them entirely and they do possess a modicum of critical thinking skills. I don't know if it is lack of education, laziness, willful ignorance (see laziness) or something else causing folks to check their brains at the door, so to speak.

Those people are the definition of the word "IGNORANUS".

I've been thinking about ever since Andy first posted this.

My first reaction was, who brainwashed these people
My second thought was, what in the world have those people been smoking?
My third thought was, did all these people go to a mass anti-gun rally and while there they were all mass hypnotized to think like that?

What ever the reason, they are not only very poorly informed, but also quite gullible to believe the propaganda they've been fed. It's sad actually that they truly believe such horrendous misinformation.

I dont have any kids so I tend to blame many of the societies ills on the: Soccer Mom, Helicopter Mom, everyone gets a ribbon and we can solve every problem with more laws mentality.

Hell, I've got a daughter and I still agree with you. She got kicked out of gym one day in high school (back east school that didn't keep score during soccer) for telling the teacher that she didn't give a hoot about a participation ribbon because life rewards winners and just participating isn't good enough. Needless to say that attitude isn't going over real well in her Ivy League pre-law either. :)

As a thought experiment, consider these three environments:

1) A minimum security prison where the power has just failed and all the cell doors have opened. Common criminals have flooded the reception area. Due to a labor dispute, the union is on strike and there isn't a guard or warden on site. It's just you in the reception area in the dark with a crowd of common criminals.

2) A CSGV meeting, in a crowd of people on the hunt to stamp out guns. You are armed and an anti-gun twit has just opened her mouth to gulp down air to scream, "CALL 911!!! HE'S GOT A GUN!!!!"

3) A crowded gun range full of gun zealots armed to the frickin' teeth.

In which environment do you feel safest? Least safe?

Least welcome as a fellow citizen?

I would feel least safe in the roomful of criminals, although a roomful of anti-civil rights activists comes a close second. If you had a concealment failure its hard to know what that crowd might do.

The gun range goes beyond a feeling of safety. I get contentment, practicing the life of being a free American. Any time I've had the pleasure of being in a room full of armed folks, that's just reassuring. I'm among my own kind.
