House Bill to Ban Body Armor for us peasants

http://benswann.com/new-bill-proposes-a ... ody-armor/
A new bill has been introduced to the House which could make civilian ownership of body armor illegal.

The bill, called the Responsible Body Armor Possession Act, would strip the right of civilians to purchase or own body armor. The bill reads, “It shall be unlawful for a person to purchase, own or possess enhanced body armor.”

Enhanced body armor, as defined by the bill, is “body armor, including a helmet or shield, the ballistic resistance of which meets or exceeds the ballistic performance of Type III armor…” Type III armor protects against most standard issue rifles as well as many rounds used in handguns.

However, there is an exception to the bill. The bill reads all body armor will be illegal to possess unless the person in question is a government employee. All personnel who work for the various government agencies, departments, or “political subdivisions” are exempt from this potential new law as the bill is currently written.
Government employees exempted of course. While I don't think this Bill will go anywhere, I do think people should know the face of evil. There is no other word that fits the kind of authoritarian scum that would propose or sponsor a Bill like this. That Democrats (Marxists) from the People's Republics of Commiefornia, New Jersey, and Illinois are behind this despicable Bill is no surprise...but Florida? These despicable Marxists...ur, I mean, "Democrats" are everywhere.
Representative Michael Honda (D-Calif.)

The bill, H.R. 5344, the “Responsible Body Armor Possession Act,” was cosponsored by Representatives Robin Kelly (D-Ill.), Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-N.J.), and Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.)

I wonder what in the world they think is responsible abut that proposal. It sounds more like an elitist attitude to me.

That is ridiculous.

You know, the colonist once rebelled against heavy handed and unjustified legislation shoved down their throats! :rules:

I read the snide article about it on Slate, then I read the comments. Even 90% of Slate's liberal readers think such a ban is either stupid or wrong or both. The comments I found most amusing ran along the lines of....the right wing nut jobs are telling everyone the government wants to make us defenseless, and here we have an idiot Democrat helping prove them right. Also a lot of "I'm an anti-gun liberal but this is stupid" type comments too.

I seem to recall an attempt some years ago to bring body armor under NFA rules, treating it the same as an automatic weapon. IIRC, Barney Frank was involved.
The sooner I get behind, the more time I have to catch up.

Interesting. I'm guessing body armor sales will increase. I wonder if those morons own any body armor stock. A bill like this makes me want to buy some body armor with a braced AR pistol.
What's the best upper body armor on the market? Is this stuff uncomfortable like the military stuff? Will a braced AR15 still fit snugly in the shoulder?

Depends on whether or not people will believe you when you tell them you've bulked up because you started working out more. :biggrinjester:

It's Bloomberg's latest group - Mom's Against Body Armor that has brought this to the forefront.[/I kid]. Actually, it is liberals, who want the government to be able to shoot you, without your being able to defend yourself.

Maybe not today, but there will come a day when people have had enough, and those who propose this kind of legislation will be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail........which is a better fate than they deserve.

Now, let's watch this result in panic-buying/pricing for body armor........

I could not find where the politicians are exempted. Members of congress need it more than the average person.

Again I wonder what problem this bill is supposed to fix.

Ha! I could always blame it on steroids. Can we use steroids if we're not Major League Baseball players?

The problem where bad-guys have better armor than the police. Because we know that rules like these will prevent body armor from getting into the hands of bad-guys, right.

More legislation that takes up space and entitles do-nothing politicians.
