Anyone think the regular guy will be getting the same treatment?

I would say if he was legal to carry the gun in the first place then he has a decent chance. There was an instance the other day at Houston intercontinental and the guy didn't even get arrested, tho they can always charge him later.

My understanding from news stories I've read is almost all of the DFW cases involving a "first offense" by a CHL holder results in a firm lecture at the airport. Hopefully that's enough to make them check their bags before packing for future flights. I would bet a "second offense" would result in more severe action. I haven't read about anyone doing it twice.

I've read that having contraband weapons, firearm parts (e.g., a magazine), ammunition, etc. in carry-on luggage will usually not result in state/local charges if the possession was not illegal under state/local law. However, the TSA typically follows up with a letter to the person assessing a pretty stiff fine for violation of TSA regulations.
Note the in the first case, the man was charged with UCW. I assume he is not a CHL licensee. In the second case, the Texas state rep was a CHL, so possession of the firearm on his person was not illegal, per se. However, he will still receive a fine from the TSA that will never hit the news.
