Not just network, but power and phone, too -- I think they were talking about cell service being out just for their building. Spooky.

The Austin Rifle Club website was shut down today for the same reason.

An e-mail from the club said they are just going to scrap the old website and roll out a brand new one.

It is getting hard to not suspect some kind of conspiracy at work....

Don't rule out the possibility of lack of tech savvy. Both organizations are run by unpaid volunteers and it is not always easy to stay on top of such things.
They may be easy targets because of this, but until it starts happening to more organizations such as these, I will defer my paranoia for now. Any actual news links?

I believe ARC servers are maintained at a members house, not at the physical site. Don't know much about BFA.
How do you block out cell service for one building?

Jammer?

Or I suppose they could take out 1 or 2 nearby towers, but it wouldn't be precisely a single building.

AndyC wrote:From their Facebook page, they've made public what they've sent to Zimmerman:
$12,150.37. Enough to buy whatever he wants that he feels will enhance his personal safety or that of his family. In our letter to his attorney, we stated: "As we advertised this as a fundraiser to help Mr. Zimmerman replace his gun, holster, ammo and gear, it is our request that this donation be used to pay for any guns, ammunition, gear, training, ballistic vests, tactical training or home security systems which Mr. Zimmerman, in his sole opinion, believes is appropriate to protect himself and his family, including his parents. Self-defense is a personal decision, and we leave Mr. Zimmerman complete discretion on what gear, guns, products and services to spend this money on."
So, in staying relevant to your original post, this may be why they were attacked, or it may have been an unintentional Denial of Service judging by the overwhelming responses which may have generated more traffic than their servers could handle.

Looks like Another attempt to silence the opposition by the anti gunners

Not a lot of evidence considering so far, one group, maybe two, has had this happen? Like I said, if there were more examples I'd jump on the bandwagon too.
AndyC wrote:IMO, more likely the former; I doubt that $12k in donations was too much traffic for them to handle.
The ARC reference leads me to believe otherwise as I know (knew) the folks there. No offense but it's totally amateur and has had minimal defenses against run-of-the-mill viruses. Maybe things are different with them now and with Buckeye. Tell me more about them, besides being an all volunteer group. Their bldg... is it a clubhouse, a range shack or an office complex?

I've got no dog in this particular fight, but after reading just a few posts on their facebook page, if I were those boys, I'd look into "Amanda"; "she" is clearly a part of the Bloomberg/Soros/Obama complex paid to disrupt in ANY WAY POSSIBLE. The fact that this is a low-tech group would further bolster the thought that they are being jobbed by a well-funded adversary trying to make their work difficult in ANY way possible.... :tiphat:
