Edmonds told this author that high-level corruption compromised the ability of the U.S. intelligence community to pursue ongoing investigations of those planning the 9/11 attacks. “It was precisely those militants that were incubated by some of America’s key allies”, she said. Corruption helped guarantee Congressional silence when that incubation strategy backfired in the form of 9/11. “Both Republican and Democratic representatives in the House and Senate came up in FBI counterintelligence investigations for taking bribes from foreign agents”, she said.

Does this help explain Congress too?

Other intelligence experts agree that Edmonds had stumbled upon a criminal conspiracy at the heart of the American judicial system. In her memoirs, she recounts that FBI Special Agent Gilbert Graham, who also worked in the Washington field office on counter-intelligence operations, told her over a coffee how he “ran background checks on federal judges” in the “early nineties for the bureau… If we came up with **** – skeletons in their closets – the Justice Department kept it in their pantry to be used against them in the future or to get them to do what they want in certain cases – cases like yours.”A redacted version of Graham’s classified protected disclosure to the Justice Department regarding these allegations, released in 2007, refers to the FBI’s “abuse of authority” by conducting illegal wiretapping to obtain information on U.S. public officials.

This makes me unspeakably angry.

If you don't have the marbles to handle the job and all it entails and keep yourself clear of bribery and extortion, resign. :mad5 :mad5 :mad5

The accusations are so huge they are hard to believe... even thought I'm predisposed to believe such things possible..

I find her credible, and her charges anger me beyond words. People should be going to jail - for the rest of their natural lives.

It's about time for another Abscam.

Remember that one? All those Congressmen and at least one Senator, on tape, selling out to FBI agents posing as Arab sheiks? Some were prosecuted, all resigned and all but one was a You-know-what.

The tape of that one fat Congressman stuffing wads of bills down his pants and pockets, telling the Sheiks that "in DC, cash talks and bovine excrement walks" was a civics lesson that all young Americans ought to have the chance to watch and reflect upon. Talk about America's Funniest Home Video!

If mainstream Journalists ever hope to regain the trust of the American people, they need to start blowing the airwaves up with stuff like this.

Nothing that LBJ, J. Edgar Hoover and the Kennedys did not do, with enthusiasm. This was the source of Johnson's much bally-hoo'd ability to convince other Congressmen to do things his way, the so-called "Johnson treatment" and J. Edgar's "influence" over people on whom he had files.

Obama operatives did this same thing on Jack Ryan. Nothing new here. Ask former General Petraeus how this works.

There was one who didn't go to jail - John Murtha. And he had a Navy ship named after him. Which disgusts me beyond measure. We used to name ships after heroes or cities or states or Presidents.

The thing that disgusts me is that there seem to be NO HONEST, MORAL, ETHICAL people running our government. Quite a sad commentary, and WILL be the end of a great nation. Unlike our founding fathers, these weak, greedy, narcissistic losers are ONLY in their positions to satisfy their egos and fill their bank accounts. I'd guess that the majority or the folks on this forum could (and HAVE) passed more background checks than these people, with NO SCANDALS in their pasts. Can't say the same for ALMOST ALL OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS. So, why do we vote for them???? Just sayin'......

Perhaps another lesson is due. Although the Chicago thugs didn't learn anything from Abscam, Greylord did reduce the level of corruption for a while,
The 3 1/2-year undercover operation took place in the 1980s. The first listening device ever placed in a judge's chambers occurred in the undercover phase, when the narcotics court chambers of Judge Wayne Olson were bugged. In order to acquire evidence of corruption, agents obtained U.S. Department of Justice authorization to present false court cases for the undercover agents/lawyers to fix in front of the corrupt judges. The first defendant to be found guilty was Harold Conn, the Deputy Traffic Court Clerk in the Cook County judicial system. Conn was convicted in March 1984 and was one of the many bagmen in the ring of corruption. The last conviction was that of Judge Thomas J. Maloney, who was indicted in 1991 on bribery charges and convicted in April 1993 of fixing three murder cases for more than $100,000 in bribes. Maloney was released from federal prison in 2008, and died the same year. A total of 92 people were indicted, including 17 judges, 48 lawyers, ten deputy sheriffs, eight policemen, eight court officials, and state legislator James DeLeo. Out of the 17 judges indicted in the trials, 15 were convicted. One judge, Richard LeFevour, was convicted on 59 counts of mail fraud, racketeering and income-tax violations, getting 12 years in prison. Ten years after the undercover case concluded, the historical investigations, prosecutions and trials concluded in 1994.
