Men who are physically strong are more likely to take a right wing political stance, while weaker men are inclined to support the welfare state, according to a new study.

Researchers discovered political motivations may have evolutionary links to physical strength.

Men's upper-body strength predicts their political opinions on economic redistribution, according to the research.

Interesting conclusions they came up with there....not that I don't like the conclusions as they tend to validate my somewhat twisted views.

That said, when I see studies like this, I am reminded of how much grant money is spent on what some may call questionable science / studies....

Two observations:

1) they had to look the U.S. to find an example of the "conservative body type?"

2) they think that Schwarzenegger is a conservative?

TAM, keep in mind that one of the researchers was from California. To him, Arnold probably was a conservative. Especially compared to who they have in office now....

I am amazed by the number of men I encounter here in the liberal bastion heck-hole of Austin who would ordinarily be pretty macho man's men, but they have managed to glom on to certain femenistas in their lives who have made them ashamed to be manly. It's a tragedy how things are regressing in the demarcation of gender roles.

It's the image the media has been presenting for some time now of what good socialist men are supposed to be. Look at the movies and television shows and consider how many male characters are competent, self-reliant, and masculine versus how many are out-of-shape, indecisive, unskilled, incompetent, frightened dweebs and wimps. What do we have these days for masculine actors --The Rock? Where are the young John Wayne's, Robert Mitchum's, Steve McQueen's, Paul Newman's, Charles Bronson's, Humphrey Bogart's, George C. Scott's, et al? We've got male leads like Leonardo DiCaprio, Seth Rogan, Shia Laboef --and they're trying to pretend Justin Bieber is a man.

When my son was about six, he asked me why democrats have great big heads. I told him it was to hold a bunch of hot air.

He's seventeen now and I've never told him any different.

In my youth I was misguided and poked fun at the sensitive/artistic young men who strummed cheap acoustic guitars and sat with the rock breaking young women who wear comfortable shoes, at the coffee shop and adult watering holes. Now that we've all grown and matured for 4 decades after leaving academia behind, I've taken the opportunity to revisit the young man I was and my actions then.
As stated I was misguided, not in my assessment of those young men as objects of ridicule, I still find the opportunity to ridicule them now that they are Congressmen, Senators, University Presidents, Tenured Professors, etc. But in the fact that I didn't consciously recognize that they were and are enemies of the Nation and traditions that I hold dear. I knew on some level that they were the "Other" hence my attitude. Yet I was unable to grasp then that their devotion to self was all encompassing and allowed no place for care or devotion to a greater purpose, our nation, or God.
This study does in a small way validate my personal conclusions. They were then and remain narcissistic grasshoppers, willing to eat the seed, set aside for the next planting, to insure their own well being.

This whole subject has me giggling uncontrollably.
