I personally think that 50% is low. They have now removed the 'bereavement clause' from diagnosis of depression.

It used to be that a person who is grieving the recent death of a close family member was not considered clinically depressed unless they exhibited severe symptoms. Now, a person could walk away with a diagnosis of clinical depression because they're distracted and unable to sleep a mere month after losing a parent, spouse, or child.

sigh.

Isn't it obvious? The half they are referring to is the liberals. Those who voted for Obama. Are you really going to argue that they are not mentally disturbed????

I also think 50% is low. My wife has thyroid issues and has been treated accordingly for several years now. I've had two of her doctors tell us that I'm the abnormal one for not needing any meds meaning that more people than not, if tested, could require some sort of supplement to bring one or more of their levels back to within a "normal" range.

Going the medical route to restrict gun ownership could make things very interesting.

Really this is just the end result of the "participation trophy" mentality that dominates our current society. Since everyone should be equal, and winning & individual success aren't fair, it gives license to doctors to label everything a disorder. That way nobody is held accountable and nobody has to feel bad for not doing as well as the next guy.

My Doctor has diagnosed me as MAMD (Middle Aged Man Disease). A little over weight, cholesterol a little high and things that didn't used to hurt when I work up in the mornings now do.

I think many Doctors will be no problem. I know my Doctor is a gun owner and likes to hunt. I think those that are on or take any type of antdepressantsts will be at risk of being tagged though, and that is real issue that needs to be addressed. Just because someone takes Zoloft or Ambien does not mean they are mentally unstable. It shoulbeeb well defined as it is currently here in Texas for your CHL as to what constitutes a mental disorder or treatment.

1) Follow the money. In a country where healthcare coverage is now mandated by law, is it any mystery that the book which officially determines the array of possible diagnoses has been expanded to include more and more diagnoses? And who is it who says that "we" as a nation are more anxious and neurotic than ever before? The same people who compiled book and who get paid by insurance for those diagnoses. This was utterly predictable.

2) Follow from whence power emanates. It is no secret that the psychiatry/psychology fields are dominated by sanctioning organizations with a powerfully liberal bent. The more diagnoses they "find," the more power they can exercise over our lives. Don't believe it? Just ask any veteran who has recently lost his/her RKBA because some liberal hack at the VA gave them a diagnostic label which too conveniently disarms them. Look at what is happening in NY this very week, in which perfectly normal people who are taking any kind of meds for any kind of anxiety are having their firearms licenses revoked without due process. This was utterly predictable.

It's all about money and power........the two things that always drive the leftists.......

Let's add good old-fashioned greed on the part of Big Pharma into that mix. The more "mentally ill" folks there are, the more folks will need pills to help them be "all better". I certainly agree with you in principle, though, TAM.

In this case the power, not authority, to disarm the individual with the appearance of legality and no practical means of redress for the individual.

What happens if you attend a dentist and have a one off sedative to assist some big dental work.............guns gone ?

This is going to open up one huge can of worms and needs to be defeated. Sadly Boehner & Co. seem to be part of the machine and emotional politics now thriving in DC Does anybody up there represent their electorate anymore or is it just a club for the Ruling Elites ? Rand Paul and Ted Cruz occupy the same foxhole and are pretty well surrounded by mush !
