Florida Children Write About Giving Up Freedom for Security

School children in a class in Florida wrote sentences dictated by their teacher as part of a class project. Among the sentences was:
‘I Am Willing to Give Up Some of My Constitutional Rights…to Be Safer’
Harvey's son attends Cedar Hills Elementary in Jacksonville, Fla. Back in January, a local attorney came in to teach the students about the Bill of Rights. But after the attorney left, fourth-grade teacher Cheryl Sabb dictated the sentence to part of the class and had them copy it down, he said.
Just another example of those who teach, at all levels, twisting the system and using it to get across their views and trying to persuade others to see the same way. At least with college kids, they may already be pretty set in their way of thinking and realize what the teacher is up to. In this case, I doubt any fourth grader would have a clue. They are just following the directions of the teacher, like they are always told to do...

I'm sure nothing will happen to this teacher either. I don't have a problem with issue discussions in classrooms, but these are always one sided stories we hear...

Edited to add: I forgot the link to the story...silly me. Redneck_buddha has it below....

I cannot think of how this would ever be appropriate in a fourth grade classroom.

Teacher and admins saying he wrote it on his own. Other students dispute this account and say that some were selected to write it down, so there may be more of these out there.

I doubt they did, but I wonder if they asked this kid or any of them if they know what a Constitutional Right is.

They wouldn't know unless their parents taught them. The schools sure don't.

Baloney! A fourth grader does not say stuff like that! This was planned and assigned. The only way he "chose" to write that is if it was posted somewhere for him to pick a saying and copy it. That is just as bad.

Had a guest speaker. A lawyer speaking on the Bill of Rights. Apparently after he left she made some or all the students write this down.

Education is at the bottom of the degree fields not typically offered at vocational schools.
